.....so I can get some other opinions.....
Hello Hello-
Threw together a Mosrite Fuzzrite today using 2SB175 trannys.
I built a silicon version about 2 years ago and always wondered  how much difference there would be.  Well, I should have built the germ version 2 years ago 'cus this thing is one nasty fuzz.  I had to spend some time biasing the trannys but after that was done it turned into a fire-breather.
I won't know if it's a keeper 'til I test it through the stage rig, but so far I like it.  I'd be interested to know if anybody uses any different germ trannys 'cus the 2SB's are a little noisey [hissy] but they sound great.
Brian.

Hello Hello----
Brent--  Yeah, that was one of the versions I built a couple of years ago.  I actually used 10K res. in my germ version, too...it biased the trannys alot better.
Jimbob-- I like the Hot Silicon quite a bit...good tone and gobs of gain.

Hello Hello--

brian~
i have an orignal 60's one right now that i am repairing the switch on.. this particular unit sounds a little gatey, and misbiased when the note decays..
the fuzz tone is pretty raunch! i like it.. lemme know if you want any pics of the board/circuit..
be well,

Hello Hello Ryan--
Abso-friggin'-lutely I want pictures!!!  Is it si or germ??
I tried my germ Fuzzrite with the band tonight and I think it's a keeper.
Thanks for the offer of pics!
Brian.

Hello Brian, I got some Germ's, Shoot me a Schematic, I'll build one,
Johnny

brian wenz

hello Lonestar--
Go to Fuzz Central....nice, simple schematic and layout.  Be prepared to adjust the 470K res. that go between the 9v and the trannys for good bias.  I lowered mine  down to about 10 - 15 K .
Brian.

So Nightingale...since you've had it open there...
What transistors do you see in that Original?
Pics yes I'd like to see pics of vintage stuff, since I don't have any here, and I've never seen a Mosrite Fuzzbox...
I played for a while on a Mosrite Guitar...'fine' [as in minimally small profile] fretted instrument, close Razor Action...unusual looking though.

MY APPOLOGIES GUYS!! i misread the thread title.. i have a vintage FZ1-A i am repairing the switch on.. sorry to mislead any hopes of a look at the mysterious FUZZRITE.. i will still post the pics of it when i get home.. it is intersting looking.. the circuit is on fishpaper eyelet board, with strands of cloth covered wire here and there..
my bad!
be well,

Is this the one to try? I tried some before but never could get the "Rite" fuzz [or anything] out of it...

petemoore,

i think i breadboarded that one and it didnt sound bad but nothing special...

i did use rat shack trannies tho so maybe some Ge's might sound better.

What are your pin voltages Brian?

Brian, if you're still watching, can you indicate which schematic you used for the FuzzRite?

Hello Pete--
   Just got back....
I used the Fuzz Central schematic.  I had to lower both of the 470K res. that go between each tranny and 9v  in order to get the germ trannys to bias up.  [Somewhere around 10K to 15K seems to work].
Phoras-- I'll post the pin voltages as soon as I can!  [maybe later today or tonight].  Sorry for the delay!
Brian.

Cool N/P...hope you had a good trip!!!
Yupp I'll probly 20k trimpot [or so] on the collectors...thanks!
