yeahhh Great pics of cool stuff!!!
  Good lighting....
'rigid' construction...looks like stuff I'd tack on when I'm tired and don't wanna pull the board...stretch a caps leads all the way from a pot [hope it doesn't move too much] to the board. Seems to have passed the test of time...makes one wonder how those caps are doing these days...
Interesting to see how they constructed them back then.
Not exactly the prettiest stompbox ever, but cool nonetheless.
Is that an SPDT buried in there? Looks like Volume control/on/off for the battery...interesting...only one jack...

Hello Hello -
    Killer shots Ryan.
    Thanks!
Brian.

Hmmm Gibson/Maestro stompbox...
I know it may sound barbaric (I went to Saint-"Barbara" college after all ;-) ) but actualy sometimes I wish I could find one at a local second-hand market in the hands of a tired granny, JUST FOR THE METAL CASE ONLY! Serious I would consider riping all the Fuzz out and placing a nice FET drive or something... This stompbox is so ravishing, like the most sexy tank I've ever seen...(allthough the Panzer V "Panther" comes close ;-) :P )

About 10 years ago, I made my nephew one of the Anderton Tube Sound Fuzzes in an FZ-01 case I had hanging around.  I spray-painted over it, but the Gibson/Maestro logo is still visible under the paint.  What's driving me nuts is that I can't quite figure out how I got the case or if there was a board in it.  I know that I had bought a Shin-Ei  FY-2 fuzz shortly before then (primarily for the stompswitch and case), but I can't remember what sort of case it came in.  Could I have bought a Shin-Ei grafted into in a Maestro case at the pawn shop?  Bizarre.  Whatever it was, I know I don't have those transistors or a board like that one sitting in my parts bin.

Got a similar "case without the board" thing in my basement:

two Schaller "YOY-YOY" wah-shells...

(that reminds me of another story I gotta dig up...)

I love the reflector-top SG bell knobs!  I would love to use those type of knobs on my stomp boxes, but alas, they only make them from the split/knurled shafts.

I like the way those knobs look so much that when I installed the Seymour Duncan pickups and 500K pots in my Telecaster, I ditched those "ho-hum" chrome dome knobs and got a pair of those SG knobs.  Looks trick  :D

Hello Hello--
A properly biased FZ-1A  is a great fuzz!   I'd love to have an original box for my clone.
Brian.

Paul Marossy

Anyone know if there is a schematic online for this little guy?
(The original circuit, that is)

Paul Marossy

Thanks, that looks it Koen...
anyone know if it is accurate?

tomorrow I`ll link to the patent file (nice drawing+waveform explanations)

Hello All-
Run a "search" for Gez's Maestro notes for biasing the three trannys.  His experience with this circuit really helped me to get it sounding good.
Brian.

Looks like my re-issue. Except its only battery powered. I traded someone here for another i had and got another. Im guessing these alder ones sound a lot better..I dont know though.

who said "patents are lame" ?

Arn C.

This is too cool.  I was just talking to a friend of mine who is a guitar player.  He said his first pedal was a Maestro Fuzz and he said it had speed knobs on it.  He said he bought it in 1965.

He also said that he used it for only a couple of songs, one was "Satisfaction" by the Stones.
He also said that he went out to play a gig with it at a bar in NYS in the winter and when he first hooked it up and tuned up, it worked fine, but it was cold in the bar and it only had a central fire place in it.   Anyhow, when he clicked it on for Satisfaction, it wouldn't work, it fuzzed for a second and stopped.  He then realized that if he warmed it up by the fireplace, it worked fine, he said he actually melted the knobs one time.

Is there a way to compensate for the temperature for one of these?

Thanks!
Arn C.

I don't believe those Motorola trannies are original - looks like a '72 date code on them anyway.  My FZ-1A has three 2N2614s.  I also have an FZ-1, which has 2N270s.
