Just a link for those who remember Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. I remember Aron was wondering what this guitar man was up to a while back. Maybe you've seen the site already, but for those who have not ...

You can listen to his music here - click on albums ...there's chat with Frank also etc.

I just heard a bit of his new live album yesterday - fantastic player!

Yes, prodigeous (is that how you spell it?) player considering he picked up the guitar somewhat late - (played the drums before). Anyway it's been said Frank also made some DIY stompboxes for his act - at least earlier on in his career, maybe we can get him to join in on the fun here at times.
Check out his web site for more info / music ...all albums are playable.

I saw him on the tour he recorded his 1st live album on back in July 4 77', and I had a vision of my own, that I would play like that someday.....didn't happen. I'm almost sure that"Talkin' Bout A Feelin" came from the night I saw him cause he says at the beginning of it "Got A Joint", reached over and grabbed one from somebody in the front row, turned on the Uni-vibe and went at it! Same thing happened at that show. Boy was he better than Ted that night!

HAH!

man he really wants to be jimi. at least the early stuff.

it sounds like you took all the hendrix albums and mixed the songs together, especially the vocals.

very good player though.

Frank was a really "underground" player back in the day. I realize that the term "underground" means virtually nothing today because of the internet and mass media and all, but it used to really mean something. Word about bands, music, players were spread greatly from person to person, not on MTV. When I saw Frank in 77', my brother had tried to see him 2 other times and Frank had cancelled both times for whatever reason, so for a lot of people in Memphis, TN, this was a highly anticipated event. I'm too young to have seen Hendrix live, but boy, I saw Frank, and I heard Frank. The first notes he hit were absolutely incredible sending such shivers down my young spine that my knees trembled and I almost fell down. I don't know who you could say something like that about these days. If being influenced by Hendrix is a crime, then lock me up. I's guilty.

i am influenced too..i am such a jimi freak.  aside from randy hansen this guy is the closest ive heard. a MONSTER player. both randy and frank. but frank's songwriting is VERY similar. chord progressions, feel..etc
i like it.

Sure that's him singing all of it as well. Here's another link  ... an interview with Frank. It explains a lot of things - the fallacy of his Hendrix re-incarnation - his problems with the big recording industry machine (Sony for one) - a very bright and articulate man as well as a "godlike musician" !!!

He visited Finland years and years ago and perhaps Scandinavia and I did not see him but read about him on local rock/music magazines. His diy skills thing was mentioned clearly, and if I remeber right he did amp stuff too. It was perhaps mentioned on TV he was on a talkshow too, I was impressed, he had a cool image on TV. I might have that mag somewhere. Of course no details or other info was mentioned about his diy gear.

check out the old concert poster ... mahogany rush supported by .... AC/DC! lol!!!!

That poster reminds me of reading about him in Guitar Player in the 70's ... the article had a pic of him wearing tight pants, chunky belt and high heeled boots ... good to see these days he's lost the porn star moustache!

In an Old Guitar Player interview with Frank, he purported himself to be self taught, learned guitar in a hospital bed, while recovering from an 'extended hallucianagenic experience'. I guess he was like wayyy out there, and on his way back, played recieved messages on the guitar...or something like that.
