NOS transistors... Got some? Got a lead on good sources?

I don't suppose it helps much, but I think that was a Fairchild epitaxial planar. Seem to remember it coming out in 1968 or so.

I bought some from Electronic Goldmine that danceatron links to. They are dated late '72 to early '73. Hfe's run from the mid 100's to the mid 400's. I only bought 15 as $.50 each is kind of expensive for silicon gen purpose trannies.

On the topic of NOS transistors used in old effects, these slightly overpriced silicons were used in some big box Superfuzzes and other Japanese effects:

I did some Ge testing with BMP, have one in Q2, but would try gain mods to compensate if I were to further the GE BmP tests. the HG/LN transistors just had more gain, probably less noise. Nice ge distortion sound, just didn't Fuzz as hard...

Thanks for the info.  I bought 20 to try out.

BTW, this thread is two years old.  In the mean time, Steve Daniels as Small Bear http://smallbearelec.com/ had contracted with a builder who had some old Fairchild silicon stock, and what he's selling now is pretty good.  Fairly wide variances, but if you test them and sort them, you'll find a good number that do the proper early BMP magic.
