Sorry--just bumping this one.  I was looking for a way to make my One Knob Fuzz more stoney, and it seems Dragonfly has had this up for YEARS!
Thanks again.

Hey Dragonfly (and anyone else!!) - any ideas on the above problem?

Thanks
Aidan

Does this really have a master of reality sound? If it can get me close to "into the void" I'll have this breadboarded in no time.
It seems like I'm slowly amassing a collection of fuzzes for every possible application.

Q1's collector voltage is too high...check the connection of the 100k resistor and Q1 base, Q2 emitter

voltages should be in line with typical fuzz face ... Q1 collector about +/- 1.5V

Once you solve that, Q2's voltages may fall in line better.

Well have checked the 100K - measured 97K from the (board side) base of Q1 to the + of the 10uF cap, so I know the connection is sound.  Continuity checked from the emitter of Q2 (again, board side) to the same point, and this indicates solders are OK.

Remembered another mod I'd made too - 2.2M resistor.  I used a 1M instead as it's what I had available.  Assume this is just the standard pull down tho, so don't anticipate this will have any effect.

Would buggered trannies (if you'll pardon the expression) cause this?  They are not socketed, and while I'm good and quick with the soldering iron, there's always the possibility they are medium-well done...

Confirming orientation on these as well - look at the flat side, you've got EBC left to right, right?

Cheers

(edit) just realised that the 1K intensity pot mod has nil effect.  No difference through the entire sweep - does this help any?

ACS

Could someone who has built this be able to do a quick test for me?

Could you check the two trannies in circuit for open circuit/closed circuit from B-E and B-C?  Then with the diode test setting?

I just get open circuit for all configurations on both Q's at anything up to the Mohm scale, yet they seem to check out with the diode test...

I realise that in circuit testing is not ideal, but this seems very wierd...

ACS

Right, confirmed it's not that trannies - put two new ones in (with sockets this time!!)

Ideas?  Please?!

Hi all, a short question, if I want have this fuzz and the Colorsound Insuctorless wah on the same PCB, when I connect +9V, that is actually connected to R1 on the wah, to R1 of the fuzz, will this second resistance be in series  with the one of the wah  ???, shall I change its/their value ? suggestion ?

thx vm

I have some 2N5088's that have an hfe of 600+.  Almost as high as 5089's and should work well.  Might be slightly noisier.  Always check the bias.

Also, for a larger size devil, try a 2N7000 Mosfet at Q2.

Has anyone seen the switch circuit that allows 2 transistors to be switched at either Q1 or Q2 position, or both with 2 switch's.  This allows an SI/SI or SI/GE (Q2 in this version) for 2 different characters.   :icon_cool:
