What causes a full wave bridge rectifier to overheat. The output signal is at what it should be. and the waveform looks correct, but it is getting very hot.

Hal

too much current?  Is this bridge in a pedal or a power supply?

Peter Snowberg

If nothing is hooked to the output, it should remain dead cold. If it doesn't, then one of the diodes may be partially fried.

Is the bridge made for the current that you're pulling through it?
Eschew paradigm obfuscation

Paul Marossy

It sounds to me like you are close to or are slightly  exceeding the maximum current rating of the diodes. They really shouldn't get hot, AFAIK.
