I just got a Boss GT6, sans power supply, in a trade. MF wants $40 for the damn thing. Anyone know of a cheaper alternative, preferably one that won't make my pedal explode? I'm not looking to build my own power supply, not for this thing anyway.

I've gotten some good deals from Jameco.

I can't remember the GT-6's specs; if you have the manual they're in there, and I'm sure you can find them online as well. If all else fails, I can check mine for you when I'm back at college (Jan 4th).

14v, 800mA. The closest thing Jameco has is 15v, 2000mA. I need to learn more about power supplies.

That should be close enough ?
I have an odd 10v PSU which i use on all my Boss/Ibanez pedals with no problems at all

How about 16v, 1100mA? That's the only one they have that's close to the voltage with the right size output plug.

MartyMart

Hmm, well that depends on the tolerance of the parts used I suppose, its pushing up the voltage, but not too much.
If the caps are 25v rather than 35v they could be close to their limit.
I'd hate that you tried it and blew the thing up !!
well it would only be the power diode I suppose !
Anyone else chime in with some advice ?

Blowing it up is the main thing I want to avoid. If it ends up that the only way to ensure no explodey occurs is to buy the Boss adapter then so be it, but I really don't want to pay that much for the damn thing. It's just a freaking power supply!

I guess it would be to easy to just up the price of the pedal and put the power supply inside the damn thing to begin with.

Hal

you can make a regulated LM317 14v supply, at 1a (the TO-3 package) for less than $40!

black mariah

I don't want to do that. I have absolutely no experience making power supplies and don't want to gain that experience while risking a $400 pedal I can't easily replace.
