I'm about to build a Phaseur Fleur and as I was making my parts list I came to the CdS cell (mouser part number: 338-54C348) that Mouser now lists as "Obsolete." I did some searching for an equivalent without any luck. The one on Mouser is also listed as "3K TO 20K" while the part list for the Phaseur says 5k light - 500k dark. I'm assuming the latter is correct, but I'm not finding those. Anyone wanna clue me in? Thanks.

Check out Jameco.com or Digikey.com for CdS cells. You should be able to find a suitable part at either of these places.

If not, you can usually put a taper resistor in parallel with the cd cell to even things out, and it helps to overcome any variance between individual cells.

I'm trying to find a suitable CdS and by following your instructions, there is nothing that comes up in either digikey or jameco that has photo cells... Is there any accurate advice anyone could give regarding these? ie. part number, or actual search parameter at a company or something.

I just found something at digikey.

a wide range of values will work. it's best to use the same ones (i.e. don't mix and match CdS cells). To compensate for differences in resistance, the height knob is tweaked with the trimpot from height 1 to ground, and by manually changing the resistance from height 3 to V+. This changes the range of voltage fed into the LEDs (which makes their light output dimmer or brighter, which makes the CdS cells' resistances more or less). If you need numbers, shoot for a "bright" resistance of around 1k or less, and a "dark" resistance of 100k or more.

Dann to the Rescue... I was contemplating this one myself...
