'Lo all,
is it a good idea to ground the enclosure for effects? I noticed my highway 89 is slightly noisy, and wondered if this would help...would it also help RF blocking?
Thanx,
Alex

Hi!

Yes, you should always ground your enclosure so it can "absorb" external noises like radio, etc.

Of course it has to be a metal box :)

Or at least properly shielded...

Alpha579

how and where from would you connect it?

Hi

If you use metallic jacks (input or output) chances are it is already grounded because you should have a cable between the circuit GND and the GND tip on input and output.
For a better contact with the case you may wanna try using one of those serrated lockwashers on the jacks.

If you use plastic jacks you should run a cable from any ground point in the circuit (the ground tip on the output jack for instance) to the case, probably you have to screw it there.

Luck!

Any metal shielding in a plastic enclosure will also need to have electrical continuity and must also be grounded to ensure good EMI/RFI rejection.

I noticed many people here are using collectors tins for enclosures.  Many of those I have tested do not conduct electricity.

Paul Marossy

Those tins will conduct, you just have to scratch through the coating on it to get down to the metal.  8)

That's nice to know.  I plan on using an old band aid tin for my ruby.

same goals for anodized aluminum...

great, thanx all for that... :)

note...on some boxes, the paint is like a through plated hole...it goes on the inside surface of the jack hole....you might wanna scratch that off for better contact...
