hello i am new to this fourm. i am interested in building a clean boost pedal, this will be my first build and i need something simple. is the ''Muffer'' pedal project on the main site a clean boost? or more of a overdrive? would this be a good first project? also any other easy clean boost projects?

thanks alot, matt

Try an LPB or Jack Orman's minibooster.

The LPB can be found here http://www.montagar.com/~patj/ehbsters.gif

Not totally uncolored, but my favorite booster right now is Runoffgroove's Fetzer Valve. Killer boost.http://www.runoffgroove.com/fetzervalve.html

check out the "simple NPN boost" on the beginners forum...it sounds great, and theres a "step by step" guide to building it....

Yah the Fetzer Valve is good, not totally clean at top levels, but fantastic sound.

Try Jack Orman's MOSFET Boost as well.  Supposedly the cleanest around.
Passive sucks.

Another cool thing about these simple boosts is that most of them work well together, so build more than one! I really like the AMZ Mosfet boost into the Fetzer. With a nice tube amp this is a really versatile combo for a wide range of clean to dirty sounds.

is the NPN boost a clean boost or more of a overdrive? i want a clean boost, something like a seymour duncan pickup booster or a MXR micro amp.

thanks, matt

It is mostly a clean booster.
A great way to drive a tube amp.

As a first build, the NPN boost is great because of the step-by-step guide. It makes it pretty easy even if you haven't dabbled alot with electronics before. I really like the LBP, not as clean as the npn but together with a mildly driven tube-amp, it's great for pushing it over the edge..

Just my 2 cents..
