Best Fuzz Pedal for Bass

Hi, I'm just getting into making my own stompboxes, and I want to make a fuzz. I play bass, and I've pretty much decided that I want to make the Bazz Fuss, simply because it was originally designed for bass. But are there other fuzz projects that are better on bass?

And what version of the Bazz Fuss is best on bass. Because over at home-wrecker he's using the pedal with a guitar, so maybe the mods that he does (aka, Deluxe Bazz Fuss, etc.) are suiting the pedal more for guitar? If not, then I'm really leaning towards the Deluxe Bazz Fuss, because of the tone shaping capablities. Any suggestions are welcome.

Looking at the deluxe bazz fuss,  the bazz fuss is a subset of the deluxe.  Put that pots at the right values and you just have a normal bazz fuss.  Menaing, as you said, you would have more control over how it sounds.

I dunno...my friend loved the muff fuzz, and BMP through his Affinity P-bass, and bassman. With the BMP, he was able to hit the exact tone he wanted ("around the world" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Another thing you may want to consider is putting an EQ after the fuzz.

Sometimes i find that using a distortion on bass makes it sound a little too much like a guitar. so with an eq you can kill the higher frequencies or shape it to taste.

My bass setup is always changing around due to the nature of my band but ever since i built the bazz fuss it has been the distortion i use (6 months or so?).

I have also built these distortions and still prefer the bazz fuss for bass (i also play guitar, but who dosn't): Muff PI, whisker biscuit, guv'nor and i have boss distortions. the only one that works out at all with the bass is the turbo overdrive. but it dosn't touch the bazz fuss.

I also use the digitech x series envelope synth pedal for bass. the real name escapes me at the moment. but that into the bazz fuss into a 10 band eq can really make a lot of great tones.

An equalizer with less bands wuold still be good. mine just happens to have 10.

And in case you were wondering i have a low end spector bass with an EMG SSD pick up in it. And my amp is a Traynor YBA-1 MKII. And my cab is an ampeg B-4 i believe. its rather old. its basically a 300 watt 4*12.

Hopefully this helps a little.

I like the bazz and the buzz, too. But, I have not found any other bass fuzz circuit with a sound that sits better in a mix than the brassmaster (or, brassblaster, at geofex).

I wonder how this would sound, a merging of bazz fuss and big muff pi

Thanks for the good comments on the Bazz Fuss, now I know that's what I'll try building. However that Wisker Biscuit looks interesting.

Guess you will be breadboarding abit first, huh?

I built a Deluxe Bazz Fuss for our Bass Player on stripboard and she has used it ever since. It also meant that I got my Marshall jackhammer back which she used before that! Last time we recorded she went through a RAT as the Marshall sounded a bit thin through the desk. The Deluxe Bazz Fuss sounds excellent and has very few components. The only problem we have had with it is that the tone contol s not immediate, it seems to take a second or so to readjust after it has been changed on the pot. Maybe one of the caps is chrging or discharging more slowly than it should.
