I'm trying to find the smallest filter caps I can for my tub eprojects - I need ~ 30 uF and min 200V on up.  It looks like the smallest ones I can find at Mouser are around .5 dia. by 1" for Nichicons - 250V, $0.61 (that seems awfully cheap . . . ).  Any other suggestions?

If its just for preamps and you don't mind higher capacitance you could look for photoflash caps, or even hit up your local camera film processor and  see if they will give you some of the used disposable cameras after they strip the film out. These all have one cap that usually is about 300v and 160uF. Don't use them with power amps though.

Read the 'fine print' on filter caps, sometimes they specify a max 'ripple voltage'. Why? because, the more ripple there is, the more dissapation is happening & maybe the cap will overheat!!
