Here are some gut pics, a cousin of a tubescreamer/fulldrive??

sir_modulus

Looks nice! (wow...that's cool, they use a 1590BB...like really! no Tiwanese (usually most peeps use these, as they have no logo inside)). Thanks for the guts shot!

Cheers,

Nish

Very cool!

What does the DB-1 look like?

Joep

Is this the pedal the Edge (U2) is/was using... ??

Thanks,

Joep

He uses/used the DB-1.

I believe the Edge uses DB-1 distortion like in elevation - I'll do gut shots of that,

Looks good.  I printed out the pics and traced it on the train trip home, no time to draw it.  Pretty much got the same thing - haven't checked it.

Minor differences:
- Can't see the input resistor R1
- Boost/drive pots only use two terminals
- There's an electrolytic cap across VCC
- There's a zener on the leds, and two of the electro caps are use with the LEDs.

Hi Rob,

Have a look at this pic:

You are right about the pots. The way I draw it is electrically equal, and I like this way better....

Added the cap, and made some other changes. It's V1.1 now

I left out the led part.....

Daz, can you help us out on R14 and C14??

Damn you're quick,
c2 is 1uf
you left out c12 100uf

definitely worth building, sounds great!
I look up others when I get home tonight

Hi Daz,

I already fixed these issues. The version I send you is old already, just download the new version.

Bye,

Joep, thanks for overlay (and the schematic).  I found R1 just after posting this morning, it *is* there - sorry for the delay in replying.

The schematic looks right but I'll cross-check again with my trace.  I couldn't make out some of the cap values on the print out, especially the polyesters - will try to check "on screen" this weekend.

Yeah, it is better.

Interesting that same PCB is used for the bass overdrive version as well.  The DB-1 and DB-2 look different, at least from a controls point of view.

Joep, I checked over your schematic and found these errors:

- R8 (47k) missing on schematic.  Goes between Drive pot and opamp -ve input
- IC2 has parts A and B swapped from the PCB
- The wipers of the Drive and Boost pots actually connect together (they connect at the middle of that part of the ckt) Basically flip the Boost Pot Left Right.
-  I'm pretty sure the LEDs are 3mm orange.  I checked this on a DEL 19" LCD which usually has good colour rendering (the Yahoo girl looks nicer as well), still looks orange on my CRT.

As far as the guess cap values go.   There's enough ambiguity not to guess.  Only a few cap values are actually visible.  (I think R14 is 100k but it's a guess.)

Hi Rob,

Thanks for having a look.

OK, I added this one.

Sure? I still think it right....

I coorected this too

Daz, you have seen it. What's you opinion? And how about C14 and R14.

I updated the schem's to V1.2

Sorry Joep, not sure why even I thought that at the time - both traces match here.

Despite my confused minds your v1.2 schematic looks spot on.

Great drawing. How much different does this sound from a Rat? The circuit is not a million miles from it!
