What's a good project that requires these?  I just bought a bunch by mistake!

JimRayden

My first project used those trannies. It was differential distortion. Go to http://www.home-wrecker.com/salvo.html for sound clips, the schematic is at muzique.com and it's called Differential Fuzz there.

It's a fuzzbox and uses 2 of 2N3906's and a 2N5088

I think I also saw an article about simply turning the more common NPN designs into PNP designs. It included changing the battery polarity but I think it needed some other tricks also.

Can anyone help here?

Ah, found it:

QuoteConvert any NPN transistor ckt I know of to PNP...just change the battery, and polarized capacitros, and diodes [invert the polarity] check out the reads around here for more ingo

Here you are. Now you have a wider choice. Like most of the fuzz faces out there.

Excellent, thanks again--is that from the FAQ?  I gotta read the FAQ...

Peter Snowberg

if you need to lower the gain, be sure to remember piggybacking.

2N3906 is a good all aroung workhorse PNP. Good units to have on hand.

ah yes, i got a bunch of these from a ratshack pnp transistor value pack.  i was mildly pleased with that purchase.  it's the pnp complement of a 2N3904.  i think the green ringer uses one.  it uses THREE 2N3904's though...  so if you wanna unload a few, do the NPN-PNP conversion and use a 2N3904 where the 2N3906 was :D

Oscar Bruil's Ge-Si Fuzz Face uses a 2N3906. I built one and it sounds quite good.

I get through hundreds of these, mostly as part of exponential converters in the voltage control sections of oscillators and filters.

inverseroom: I did a search on the forums and found another thread where a guy got spare 2N3906's and was searching for something to build.

Yes, read and learn everything on Aron's site.  Then you'll be set for anything and can maybe even design your own 2N3906 circuits.

Ah yes, there were a few links to circuit desing tutorial pages.

Someday...

I just cleaned off my workbench and am populating it with stomp-building-friendly tools and supplies, to get myself through the rest of the winter... unfortunately, I have this "job" that I have to do to "make money"... a shame.  :D

IIRC, some of Tims circuits (push me pull you, tripple fuzz) use 3906's...

you should be able to search the forum and find reviews of the circuits as well...
