Adding a power sag pot

The lo-fi phrase sampler project at Carrionsound.com includes a 500-ohm pot on the power lead, to introduce warbling into the sample playback.  It occurs to me you could put this on anything--a distortion box, a Casio.  Has anyone tried it for some of their favorite stompboxes?  What value pot are you using (and can you even get metal 500-ohm pots?), how's it working out?

I prefer a Voltage Regulator most of the time I think.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Adding a resistor in series with the battery changes the impedance of the power supply. In distortion circuits, like a Fuzz Face, this can make your circuit oscillate and make strange noises...

I would imagine a 500ohm or 1K would be the best ones tro use.

Hey Pete, what's the difference?  I've never used a voltage regulator...

A voltage regulator will hold the voltage at a specific point. For example, if you use a 12V voltage regulator, if you feed it 20V, you will get 12V. A voltage regulator will not give you anywhere close to the same effect as a variable resistor in series with a battery...

isnt it also bad to have dc going across a pot? like, i wouldnt use a 1/4W pot anyway...
