Since a popping switch is usually caused by DC leaking to the switch.  Wouldn't it be possible to put a diode in line to keep the DC from flowing into the switch?  I am sure this would already be used if it would work but I am curious.

It's better to use a capacitor, as that will block DC of both polarities from the switch, and allow AC (including presumably audio signal) through. Using a diode will block DC from one direction only, and will not let AC signal through when it's blocking, but will let AC and DC through when it's not blocking.

Almost all switches have DC blocked from them by capacitors unless they are supposed to be switching DC. In fact, the presence of DC on a signal switch is a reliable sign that the blocking capacitor is somehow messed up.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
