Do resistors have polarity?

Does it matter which way I put the resistors? will they work regardless?

Nope. Put them in any way you want. :D I ususally try to make the bands all orient toward one direction, but that's just for visuals.

Welcome to the forum too :D.

thank you for the help and for the welcome :D

Quote from: Peter SnowbergI usually try to make the bands all orient toward one direction.

I do this too, and have always felt a bit ashamed (i.e. "I am such a nerd...").  Good to see I'm not alone!

Gilles C

You don't have to be ashamed.

I do that too.

And it seems we're not alone...

Oh, btw, my boss likes to say that I have 2 sides. The technician... and the artist.

it's logical and expeditious to arrange your circuit boards in a manner which turns them in to a sort of language you can read quickly.

Peter Snowberg

Seymour Cray thought that the asthetic design should be thought about right along with the technical design.

If it doesn't look right.... it won't work "right" :D

My name is Peter Snowberg.... and I'm a nerd. :P

...so I am a nerd!

I too try and line up all my components the same way, makes it easier to read the components after the fact when I'm trying to t/s a circuit
a whole lot less twisting going on ...
Denis,
Nothing witty yet ...

HAHA now I think I'm the only one who just puts 'em in randomly.

sir_modulus

I try to put all the bands one way on my boards...I usually have a couple odd ones because I wasn't paying attention though...

Nuh-UH!  I have some pretty ugly perfboard creations in my shop that will prove otherwise!

The Tone God

I'm surprised no one has mention the possible "mojo" implications of using resistors in different directions.

Oh No!

I hope you put every one of those 40,000 resistors in their individual bags pointing  the same way :!: :P

... ahem...

Have you all forgotten that resistor leads are in fact soft steel? Plated with tin for solderability?

Doesn't anyone notice that the steel leads make it magnetic?? And that resistors give different results when aligned with magnetic north than when unaligned???

Hey... the pyramids are aligned with magnetic north too...

Well? How plain do I have to make it? See the implications? See???

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I make sure mine are inserted upside-down!

2% resistors are 98% in one direction and 102% in the other.  You need to put 2 in parallel in different directions to get a symmetrical effect.  I can prove this, honest.  My micro-amp sounds like EVH now.  Before it sounded kindof Burt Weedon.
