Hi gang!  My amp is in need of a 2.5 watt metal film resistor (100k).  Problem is.. I can't find a 2.5 watt on Digikey or Mouser.. can I use 3 watt, or should I look harder for a 2.5?

I'm actually having trouble finding a place that sells these..I only need 1. where would be the best place to look besides Mouser and Digikey?

You could also use a 5 watt, if it will fit.

You can use series/parallel combinations of smaller dissipation resistances to get the right resistances, and if they values are all the same, the power will spread equally, and you get to add the power ratings.

For instance, two 200K 1W in parallel is 2W/100K. Three 33K 1W in series is 3W/100K. Three 300K 1W in parallel is 3W/100K. Five 1/2W 510K resistors in parallel is 2.5W/102K.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
