I tried the C6 cap mod (used two ceramic 150pf's paralel).

I like this mod, it decreases the bass a bit and it is a little less ooomph, without loosing the power.

This is otherwise known as Jack Orman's Minibooster and is the original basis for the BSIAB.

My BSIAB II doesn't react very well to a wah in front of it, I can hardly hear any wah effect. It is the same as a fuzz face after a wah.

Did anyone experience this? Any idea what to do about it?

I did know, and I'm very fond of jack's MB. I meant that in the particular set up of trannies and resistor/cap values it gave exellent tone, to my ears... somewhat diferant to the "stock" MB

That first stage is set up to sound very tight, and not 'flabby' as the stock setup on the neck position, lower strings. I haven't heard it by itself, but I imagine it'd make a good treble booster.

Indeed it is... :) just needs a bit of hi-cut filtering in the end and maybe a bit more bass output. It's pretty powerful with the 2N5457 pair, which quite surprised me.

Would adding an output buffer to the wah solve the issue with the bsiab?

Should be easy to find out. Just stick a Boss pedal in bypass mode in between the wah and BSIAB.
I find in general, wah transients decrease with distortion, mainly because distortion compresses those dynamics.

hilbi

ok thanks Ed, i will try that.

It is indeed the wah with no output buffer wich is the problem. I f i put a boss pedal between the wah and the bsiabII the wah effect is ok. Also if i don't use the bos pedal in between but i activate f.e. the dynacomp compressor (in between) it is also ok.

So it looks like the bsiabII needs a wah with output buffer before it, otherwise there is hardly any wah effect.

I searched the forum, but i did not find anyone else with this wah/bsiab2 issue. Am I the first one? Or does everybody use wah's with output buffers or a  buffer in between?

Also another question, is there a mod to increase the mids in the bsiab2?

You could add a buffer to the front of the BSIAB design.  Use an opamp or an NPN.

Could you use Jack Orman's Version 2 AMZ Tone Control ?  It looks like by adding in the body control it gives more midrange as well as a better looking overall response.

I haven't tried this yet, but am thinking about building the BSIAB II pedal.

What do you think ?

hilbi

Thanks toddebner,

I fixed the issue by adding an output buffer to my V847 wah. It is the outputbuffer that is available from  http://fuzzcentral.tripod.com/mccoy.html

This wau it also fixed my wah issue with my RM Axis Fuzz.

Kill two birds with one stone

I sure can recommend you the bsiab 2, it is a great heavy overdrive pedal.
