This is a really stupid question but I've just rechecked a pedal I recently
built and I'm getting no signal.
Are you supposed to use a mono tip/sleeve for the input and mono tip/ring/sleeve for output...or can you use mono tip/sleeve for both?
This is the first step for me into the world of pedal building.
Any websites with pics of how or any advice from the guru's would
be great.
Thanks...

mono are T/S
 Stereo are T/R/S
Stereo are used for PS switchoff, usually the input plug, being mono, the sleeve of the plug connects the R/S lugs of the jack. These connections go to Ring to Battery *Neg. , and Sleeve to Circuit Gnd.
*that's for Neg Gnd, for Pos Gnd. the V+ goes to Gnd. through the R/S lugs, when the plug is inserted.
If mono jacks are used for In and out jacks,   the tip lugs are used to carry the signal in and out,  the sleeve lugs of the jacks need to both be grounded.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Yup. You can use the jacks with two terminals for both. The jacks with three terminals tip ring sleeve are used commonly for input jacks where the battery ground connects to the sleeve. This allows for the battery not be run down when there isn't a plug in the jack! On the two terminal ones, be sure to make sure that the grounds are going to the terminal connected to the visible rings if the terminals are facing towards you. Check the FAQ for more info!
