Can anyone get the schematic for this compressor?

How about an equivaliant.

Looks like they got a good price on this thing to start with.

I assume you mean the RNC (Really Nice Compressor)? I have never seen a schematic for it. I have been tempted to buy one though. The price is good for a studio quality compressor. It might be overkill for a live situation.

Has anybody tried one?

KMS

Sorry toneman, I didn't check my link.

The RNC is the compressor I'm talking about.

10Hz to 100kHz responce according to the specs.

I have been trying to figure out how to do the same thing by combining three of the more popular DIY compressors or perhaps two combined as three all in one box(DOD/ROSS/OS). I could not do that for under the cost of the RNC. Well maybe a little less but not enough to make it worth while unless I could surpass the capabilities of the RNC and make it more customized to my needs.

It is not a stomp (I can fix that) and definitly wold need to be on a wallwart.

I have not tried one.  Maybe I can find one on E-bay.  The specs show very low noise and destortion levels too.  25:1 ratio. Nice!

The RNC is a lot more complicated than any of the stompboxes mentioned - IINM, it even has some digital processing in the sidechain. It's not an ideal roll-your own candidate.

I LOVE my RNC. :D

The (stereo) analog signal path consists of a single OP275 opamp and a pair of THAT 2155 VCAs.

The dynamics processing is all done using a Motorola 68HC705P6. The signal is rectified and buffered using TL074s (2) and then fed into the µC A/D where some DSP code developed over years by a talented programmer and input from MANY talented people creates a control voltage using a TLC7524 & a MAX318. The control voltage is then fed to the THAT VCAs.

The only other chips are the reset generator, a pair of 74HCT595s for the front panel LEDs, and the voltage regulators (3). This is an AC powered device BTW.

It's a really wonderful device. I would recommand one to anybody. 8)

.... no make that everybody. ;)

Hi Peter,

I know it can't be cloned since the uC needs to be programmed, but I would be interested to see what the rest of the schematic looks like if you or anyone happens to have one.

I heard one once and thought it was an excellent sounding unit.

Glad to hear from Peter and how good the RNC works.

Great link also, puretube, with several nice looking designs for compression.

I'm still leaning toward the RNC, 25:1.  Man, that's fantasic.

The only problem is, I can't build and program one.  And I like to make my own stuff.

Building two 450watt RMS speaker cabs right now.  Found a sweet deal on 4 Eminence 12-LTA. 45Hz to 8kHz or actualy up to 10kHz if you count the 85dB which counts in my book.

99dB at 1W/1m and with the box I'm building down to 30Hz with F3=33Hz.

28Hz at 85dB, not bad for a 12" speaker.  28Hz that's bottom note A on the 88 key piano.

What is amazing to me is that speaker building science is real complex, with a lot of math.  I had no idea, but it is fun.

Got all the wood for free so both cabs will only cost me about $350-$400 with carpet, handles, stuffing and everthing.  Cabs are 20x33x53.  Huge!

The DIY speakerites are a differen't breed.  I like the stompbox DIYers better, probaly because I love elctronics better.

Thanks guys, I can always count on you and this site for any information.
This is the best site ever, no doubt.

Those cabs sound a tad large for a 12". I just purchased a new 1x12 with a 1x6 mid. It is 16"x20"x18". I'm not saying you are wrong since I am no expert, but I would double check your numbers.

KMS

yea, I thought they were big too, but I ran the numbers several times on several programs and all the same.

They are not as efficient as most speakers I checked and apparently that is why the big box is needed. 82% efficiency but still 99dB.

The Qes and Qtc are both right around .5
