I believe R2 is intended to be adjusted, as there's a window for it's value entry in the calc. also it's mentioned as chosen for the Q2 in use.

not sure what youre looking at....R1,R2, and R3 are ALL adjusted....just enter the hfe's of your transistors, and whether theyre silicon or germanium, and it'll calculate all 3 resistor values...
