Metal Zone nasal sound...

I have an ol’ beat-up Metal Zone lying around.

Before I start modding (experimenting?), the first thing I want to do take out that mid-range nasal sound that it has.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

if you can find a schem, you can try modding the tone stack but that pedal has a parametric eq IIRC so that might get tricky.  Maybe add a BMP tone stack on to the output to get a nice low mid boost to round it out?  i dunno.

Good luck.

To remove the nasally mids, simply remove c25, and c35. Don't not install a jumper or anything, just leave blank. Also make c34 a .047uf.

Take care,

Well gee thanks (in a sarcastic humorous tone…). :P

I already have a schematic (very complicated, by the way). I have some ideas for some mods but before I got started, I wanted to get rid of that nasal sound so I can hear the changes I make (i.e. so they are not colored by the nasal sound).

Brian,

Thanks BIG TIME for the tip.

It’s kind of interesting you mention C025 and C035. I was looking at the schematic and trying to figure out what Q008 and Q010 (and Q007 for that matter) do circuit wise (variable gain amplifier?). My analog circuit analysis is not up to snuff as it was many years ago.

Since I’m removing C025 and C035, can I also remove Q008 and Q010?

Thanks.

Hi Gonzo,
My pleasure. I'm not sure about q10 or q7 -- I don't have an mt-2 near me, but I know I don't change the q's in my mods.

Thanks,
Brian

Another thing that helps out is to replace the 1uf electrolytic caps with some metal film caps. That smooths out the sound and helps some.

I just purchased Indyguitarists complete set of mods (they kick ass).  I finished up doing the mods to my MT-2 yesterday and all I can say is what a difference!  No more nasal sounds, far more range in the adjustment and a more ballsy sound all around.  I use this pedal for some of the metal songs we play and it will just be perfect now.

Brian those mods are great.  I also did up my MD-2 and my OS-2.  These pedals had been collecting dust on a shelf, but no more.

Thank you so much -- glad you enjoy them! :)
