another case in point;

a lot of Sennheiser gear is made in Ireland of all places...

avoid “made in China” if you want some semblance of quality, but “made in Japan” is great stuff, and often a direct rip-off copy of the real-deal.

I believe you can get good Japanese copies of JBC soldering stations.

However, having said that, I don’t think the Dremel stuff is too overpriced, especially if you shop around, and also considering that you can replace the brushes easily. Anything that spins at 36,000rpm (or whatever it is) needs to be of a certain standard or else you’re asking for trouble!

I have a Dremel and a Ryobi. I use the Dremel in a Dremel mini drill press
for drilling PCBs, works quite well, but I prefer the Ryobi.  My Dremel
sometimes wavers in speed and is somewhat less powerful than the Ryobi.
However the Ryobi doesn't fit well in the Dremel mini drill press so I use it
for heavier jobs (cutting bolts, sharpening lawn mower blades etc.) Having
two of these tools isn't overkill as I can just leave the Dremel in the mini
drill press at all times.  ...Rick

lol, the shipping on the 39.99 drill press is 29.07. Hmm, would you suggest that? I'm not going to use it too often. I have a cheapo enclosure, a hammond, and a crybaby waiting to be drilled, and in the near future plan on drilling another hammond, but after that it'll probably be a little while until i feel the need for more pedals.

so, i realized I could probably buy one of similar quality locally, right? Are there any chain stores (Ace, Home Depot, Yard Birds, whatever) that's good for that, or should i look for locally owned?

Sorry to keep bumping this, but this was supposed to be a birthday present from my girlfriend to me. And well, today is my birthday, and she's kinda upset that I haven't told her the type of drill i want.

So if you could answer the questions in the previous posts, thanks a lot!

Materan, i doubt that any $50 or so drill will be significantly better than any otehr. Make sure she keeps the receipt.

A small drill press is really what you need for drilling the cases...much
more precision, beautiful round holes with the Unibit or standard HSS
bits.  I found a nice Delta 12" for $100 several years ago. You can probably
find similar units for even less now. This tool is a good investment for anyone who hasn't had the experience as you will find countless other uses for it later on.    ...Rick
