I am winding my own wah inductor and am using this assembly http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=item&id=L5300      My question is what is a good sized wire to use. (The smallest diameter I can find is .125mm)

it depends on the inductance you require, how many turns you wish to use and the current you expect it to handle.

I guess thin wire gives you more options to wind more turns on to the former.

I'd recommend getting the stuff from Smallbear to make your own wah inductor. He has a Halo inductor kit and winding wire. His wire is #38.

this wire is 36awg where as the small bear stuff is 38awg. Is this going to make a big difference to the sound?

only if you're into extreme mojo.  :D

Normally, one uses the thickest wire one can, so that the series resistance (and hence losses) is as low as possible.
But in this application, I don't personally think it will matter.
