I Am looking to build a java boost and found out that there

How do you have to adjust the trimpots and what is the the function of the SPDT switch? Thanks for the lay-out btw!

hairyandy

I adjust the trimpots to taste, although theoretically there is a "correct" voltage that a given transistor should bias at.  Read R.G.'s PDF on the Rangemaster at GEOFEX.  You'll know when it's biased right because it'll sound great.  When the bias is wrong it doesn't sound so good.

The SPDT switch just switches between different input caps to change the tone.  The Keeley Java Boost has a three -way switch that is treble-mid-bass emphasis.

Ok, I'll read the article. Thanks for the info Andy.

Quick question: I have finished this build, and it seems to work fine except for my tone control which has little or no effect. Sorry for the n00bness of this, but do I need to connect lug 2 to 1 of the tone pot? The vero layout doesn't indicate this.

dansamp

the tone pot does not do very much
in mine it seems to work more like a very mild cut control
i had the chance to compare it to a real java boost
and the real one has a much more affective tone control
the sound on my clone is just as good though
mine seemed more raw and in your face
the real one seemed more refined and to me more conventional

I got it all worked out. Replaced the 10nf @ C7 with 100nf and that gave me the tone variation I wanted. Little too much drive by itself on the volume side, though, which I can't really dial out with the trim pots. Sounds really nice in front of other OD pedals.
