is there a cheaper variant of the vactec VTL5C1? its expensive overhere (10â,¬ for 1) and i need 20 of them so thats about 200â,¬ (+-150$)

(optocoupler = LDR)
i'm gonna build a copy of a dual recto, but with 2 other channels added (plexi style and jcm800 style)

BG Micro has 'em for $.59 each (â,¬.49) - even after VAT and import duties, that should save you some money!

Thats a 5C2 and its parameters are different from the 5C1 (for a start the dark resistance is 50Meg on the 5C1 and only 1Meg on the 5C2). The curve for resistance vs. LED current is way off, as is the response curve.

Depending on the application these parameters can be a show stopper. For the specs check this data sheet

I have stock and will sell you 20 pieces at $6.00 (4 Euros?) each plus a few bucks postage.

Well yes, but........ who knows what the specs will be like then??
I don't know what your application is, it might matter, or.. it might not!

birt

do the specs matter a lot for an uglyface or other effects?

He's not building a precision gain-controlled stage here, he's switching channels on an amp, and since he's likely to be using a series/shunt dual vactrol switching setup, the only parameter that would give me pause is the VTL5C2's longer turnoff time - that said, the amps I've played that were built with these (5C2s) haven't exhibited any audible artifacts that I can hear. But hey, this is DIY, and do it yourself implies doing it your own way.  :D
