There are schems around for all of the Maestro fuzzes. Picking out which one was used on Satisfaction is the problem.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Hello Hello-
I built a few FZ-1A  Maestros using Gez's notes on biasing and they all sounded GREAT.......Much better then alot of "stock" units I've heard.  A really cool fuzz to have!  I used 2SB Japanese  germanium trannys  [pretty close to the original tranny] and I don't think  any other trannys would sound quite the same.  [ Others will work fine, though.]

Thanks for the feedback Brian, glad to know I didn't imagine it all!  :)

Hello Hello--
   Hi Gez!!
Yeah, I kept a copy of your notes with my  Maestro / Shin Ei schematics.
What trannys did you use for your FZ-1A ??.
Thanks!
B.

Brian, I scored a mixed bag of Ge trannies from a local Radio repair place.  They were all NKT types, 212-7325 and I think 214-7312.  I also tried some AC126 and they sounded fine, though the NKTs had better gain figures on the whole.

Hello Gez--
Did you find that the type of tranny didn't matter too much??

There was no difference between any of the devices I used Brian.  I built three, all with different combinations of trannies (and I tested loads!), and they all sounded exactly the same.

That's not to say all Ge's will sound great in there though (one type I had sounded duff), but so long as you get the bias right it doesn't seem to make much difference.

I built one of these on stripboard and couln't get it to work. Then I noticed that the schematic said 1.5v! Is this correct? I need to get back on with this one but havel eft it for a few weeks. I used some 'red spot germaniums' which were tested for function but not gain. I also tried a few other Ge pnp trannies but still got no output with 9v.

The 1a runs from a 1.5V supply, not 9V.  If you want to add a LED too, the Battery friendly way of doing this is as follows:

Adjust wiper from ground (+9V) till you measure 1.5V at the MOSFET's source.

It's crude, but it works...

Hello Hello--
   Thanks Gez.
Not only is this circuit a good fuzz, but when played through an overdriven amp it can be a great overdrive / distortion.....nice and thick!
