easy drive still popping

so i built joe's easy drive using the g.g.g.  layout and when my amp is turned up i get a very loud pop when i turn the effect on or off
i installed a 1meg and 2.2meg resistor at the input and output
(cause that's all i had)
but it is still making the pop sound
what gives?
