didnt now whether to post this in the newbie thread or on the main forum.

just wondering what each component does in this circuit and in what way does it affect the sound?

thanks

Interesting choice !
I've wanted to see an 'exploded' definition of a circuit, even a small one would require 'alot' of background info, and be possibly of great value for bringing higher understanding to basic hackers...like me.
Here's what I do understand? about the first few components.
The input cap, common to most all effect circuits, blocks DC, also blocks or attenuates low frequencies from getting into the circuit.
The 'bias string' [the two 1m input resistors], these being equal and seriesed from V+ to V-, provide a 4.5v bias for the gate of the first transistor.
I personally wouldn't care where the thread is located, I'm sure there could be 'infinite' useful information added to a thread such as this, but heavy filtering [by the time you get through all of it it's probably going to be very long and cluttery]...
Maybe this is the circuit best suited for in depth study, it certainly offers many useful circuit fragments, just taking one section at a time might be less confusing.
My 'dissection/creation' skills are a bit limited, I'd love to see an in depth schematic study with 'student feedback' questions answered...
I have 20 or so obvious' questions about just the first transistors setup...
I do think a 'circuit dissection and description' series of threads would be totally welcomed by me and others who are befuddled by the more complex circuit functions questions that arise when doing 'close in' or 'in depth' studying.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

my knowledge of circuits is very very very limited.

i just want to know what makes it go quack!
how the sensitivity controls the filter frequency etc. and what component is responsible for doing what.

i might be asking too much but I need to learn!

reading books and taking apart pedals is not making me understand enough.

Read Mark Hammer's excellent treatise on Auto Wahs/envelope followers.  Then check out RG's notes on this circuit over at Geofex

PS  Like the handle.  Do you read Viz by any chance/is your name Terence?!  :)
