I dont have any 2.2uf electros but i do have 4.7 uf. Will that make any noticable difference?

The 4.7uF will make things quite bassy.

that explains it. I just thought it was my amp.

thanks

I like much smaller input capacitors in the Fuzz Face.  It's pretty bassy even with the 2.2uF capacitor.  The Axis Face Silicon has just about the perfect frequency range of any Fuzz Face circuit that I've built :)

Ive read a lot of good things about it. I think ill give it a try so i can compare the 2. Also im going to try the liquid drive- looks interesting. Nice work!
If that Axis Face is really that good-thre might be a turning away from the pricey Germaniums. That would be interesting to see happen. At that point id still continue to buy them anyways. :)

I'm doing etching the PCB for my FF tommorow - going to socket the trannies, the Q1 biasing resistor and the input/output caps.

The 2 silicon trannies im using 2n2204 (I think) have HFEs of 130 and 160ish.

I got my trannies from Steve- there great! He made it almost too easy this way! I got my tonebender trannies from him 2 months ago and they rock too!

I bought some ac128 from Jack at AMZ i should be receiving anytime. I think i make a variation of the fuzz face with those if they sound right. Otherwise im sure there are a few other projects theyll work with well. Ill just socket them as ussual and go from there. Im trying to remember what hfe the Rangemaster clone calls for. I might do that.

I like FF 'thickness'. Needs tuned/dialed in, and at amp that way, rolling off the guitar or pregain helps rolloff wooliness.
I also like thinner FF, maybe put something in front to drive it to be like Tonebender.

I put Joe Gagan's "pre-tone" control on my easy face and really like it. IIRC, I can dial in between a 2.2u and .1u input cap for a good variety. I also put a similar "fat switch" kind of deal on my hot silicon pedal. At first I liked a smaller cap but now I really like the fatter tone too. It depends on the amp I'm plugged into and how it is set up. I've found some amps that are "fender-y" (bright with wide mid scoop) can sound kind of wheezy with a fuzz face if the input cap is too small. Dialing in the big cap with the tone control fixes that.

I always socket Rangemaster Q's, I think around 60-70 hfe, is the target zone.

ill have to read about Joe Gagan's "pre-tone" control - i bet that would be a great idea for my fuzzface!
- I put a 1uf in place of the 2.2uf and it sounded good for my amp.

I've got close to a 140 in mine ( OC140 NPN ) - sounds GREAT !!
I think it's meant to be between 80 and 120 ... ?
