Thanks to Doug Deeper, Marty Mart, others for the general and specific interests in OS Mutante's.
Starting with an unnamed Schematic, and 2x 2n2222, a 5k trimpot and a 20k trimpot for Q1/Q2 collectors...
It fired right up, [after slight debug], and sounded...rough...I think it is supposed to sound ruff, could be the transistor I thought.
An NTE103 made things much less 'out of bias/pushed to conduct' sounding, really has an interesting voice change as the sustain rolls down the input voltage, splatnasty on hard attacks at full guitar volume, rolloff [like the attack/sustain voice's] makes a big difference, very cool sounding and fun for leads, sounds like a touch of octave and ring mod if that's possible.
I used a box metal film 2n2 up to 3.3uf electro for the input cap, after that...up to 10uf, I didn't hear much difference.
A 3.3 uf stays in the output cap socket.
I'm not truly being fair, but I like it, I need to get the other GE diode to replace what I have an Si doing.
Simple easy to wire/debug circuit, the trimpots allow quite alot of variance in tone [I started them off at shown Collector resistor values...then adjusted them], as do transistor swaps.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
