anybody know the tried and best way to paint a hammond aluminum pedal?
like what are the steps to painting the pedal?
does baking it really help? if so how long?
what brand of paint?
do you have to use primer?
where to get paint?
how long drying time between coats and how many coats?
do you have to sand before painting or between coats?
if so, by hand or power sander?
what grit paper?
i don't have a laser printer so how do i label pedal with decals?
when do i apply decals?

:? thanks to those who help since this is my first pedal i am building?(treble booster)  :?

ps:i have read everything online, on how to paint stompboxes but looking for more in depth info?

As for baking the pedals; I put mine above a stove and bake them. Low fire is the key and stand close (open windows due to fumes); when the paint begins to "move" shut fire down and you are ready.

what's better laquer or enamel?

do you have to bake pedal in a toaster oven to get a strong finish?\
i went to several places and they laughed at me saying that baking it won't do anything.

thanks for the help,...

They're probably right. Heat-curing (baking) a common spray paint hasn't provided any benefits that I've ever seen. A paint that will benefit from heat-curing will note that somewhere on the can. For example, some engine paints can be heat-cured. Two different engine paints from Dupli-color have different curing methods. One is heat-curing, the other is 6 days of air curing. I've baked them both, and the one that specified air-curing chipped off just as easily as if it hadn't been baked.

You probably can bake just about any paint you would spray on metal, but few of them will actually benefit from it.

thanks markr04
you always are very helpful man. :D  :D

one other question,i don't have a laser printer. i just bought a brand new 1300$ computer and got an inkjet. does gel pens work ok for labeling a pedal?
i was going to paint it primer then white, then clear then label then clear.
or should i label on white before clear. thanks

markr04

I did this one on an inkjet printer:

I used these decal sheets (at Fry's in my 'hood):

That's clear, cure, label, clear again, and cure.

The reflective box makes the imperfections (bubbles) show very easily in this pic. It's not a problem with a painted box.

Friendly advice: If you search very thoroughly before you post questions, and calm down a bit, don't use caps, don't use so many exclamation points in your posts, you'll get more help from these folks. If these folks can turn up the answer to your question in 30 seconds with a search, you probably won't hear back from them. We get tired of answering the same questions and the more important posts get pushed down because of it... and posts that are "shouting" or "desperate" are often ignored period.

as for my posts with 3 exclamation points what is wrong with that. i am simply stressing that i need help quick so if anyone can help it is good.
in the past i have posted a topic that some may think was redundant but if they would just open it they would see that it isn't. i never post anything that has been talked about. and if it was talked about it didn't answer my question.

What you're really stressing with the exclamation points is that your question is more important than the rest of ours.

Your painting question is redundant. It's not to you because you're either asking the wrong question, or you need it answered in some certain verbiage. Then there's the other aspect: you want someone to guide you through even the smallest of insignificant details. Except for the solder-by-number layouts available, this is trial and error stuff. Although some may post pics of something they're happy with, and might be willing to answer questions on how they achieved it, this really isn't a project-finishing forum. There's an off-topic forum that you almost tripped over when coming to this one. If you're unsure about the pertinence of your question or comment, post it in there.

Take care,
Mark

P.S. You spent $1300 on a new computer. A new keyboard and mouse will set you back $15 (at Fry's anyway). Rather than expect others to know your computing situation, drop the $15 and make your life a lot easier.

I'm sorry if you think I was rude, etc. I was intending to be a bit more firm with you. You seem to ignore my "nicer" suggestions about this forum's etiquette, and make excuses instead.

I'm most definitely not the smarter of this bunch. If you continue at this rate, you will be ignored by all of those who could help you the most. As for me, I'm not going to split hairs with you on this subject any longer.

formerMember1,
I used the search function withe the criteria "paint AND enclosure", and got 46 threads to check. All of them contained the information you wanted. There have been flames on the forum before about people not using the search function, try it, it works.

Try this thread, its 5 pages long ...

In the age of the internet in general, ALL CAPS is usually considered shouting.

As far as enclosures go, the Wiki (thanks Robotboy) contains links to this.
