I was thinking about building the axis face silicon fuzz . Any body have any sound samples?
I have heard nothing but good things about it. just curious to see if it fits my taste.
thanks :D

If you would be so kind, put a "?" in the end of the title of this thread. They way it is now, many are coming here hoping to find a new clip of the Axis Fuzz.

This has been discussed before.

Yea, I'd like to hear one too. :)

Here's the clips from Mayer's site. The clone will sound basically the same. Since you don't use the same rig as who ever made the soundclip, it's really just an idea of the pedal's character. His clips will give you a pretty good idea.

Remember that the Axis Face and Mayer Axis Fuzz aren't the same circuit ;)

The Axis Face Silicon sounds a whole lot like a very well tuned Germanium Axis Face...only better.  It's not nearly as muddy and dark and it responds very well to picking dynamics.

It'll get even better when Small Bear Electronics gets those 1K reverse audio taper pots in from Alpha! :)

Duh!!  My bad, Phillip. I saw "Axis", and automatically thought Axis Fuzz. Oh well, nice clips anyways. :)

anybody run into this before?
thanks alot

Does the rev 1k pots really make that big of a diff Phillip? what about for my germ fuzz face or tonebenders?

Yep the 1KC pots make quite a bit of difference.  They take that fuzz that's bunched up at the very end of the pot's rotation and spread it out over the last 50% of the rotation instead.

It would also work just as well on other circuits that are based on the Fuzz Face, like the ToneBender MKII Pro.  It would work equally well on the Germanium Fuzz Face, too.

so phillip.
you mean that pot would let me dial other fuzz tones instead of having to crank the fuzzknob to ten just to get any fuzz? because as soon as you back off the fuzz knob even a little less it loses character.

Yep it takes that last bunch of fuzz and spreads it out so you can control the amount of fuzz much better.

A slightly bigger gain pot could be something to try, tag a 200ohm resistor between pot and Gnd. THen you can try the touchy gain settings near CW.
In a way I like would like having my FF's trimmed so max gain is where I want it set, but change guitars or even amp settings and that changes...so I just set max gain a touch over using the small stop resistor...which of course limits min gain., I'm always above 8 on the gain knob anyway

It's easy to find and insert a resistor to ground right on the gain knob.

Phillip--Where do i get these? did you say smallbear had them or was it someone else?

Steve posted here recently reporting that the pot he tested worked great for FF, and plans to stock them.

What Pete said ;)  Steve had a couple of 1KC samples made by Alpha and he used one in the Bear Face and I used the second sample in an Axis Face Silicon Rev. 3.  Steve should hopefully be in stock soon! :)
