Now I really love this pedal

...and I've been building it with volume controls and sensitivity controls and the sensitivity control has got me perplexed. The last one I did had the control between the input cap and the base and was a voltage divider with 2.2M to ground and a 500kB pot.It worked grandly and came up nice and gradual. My latest has got the sensitivity control on the input before the input cap and I've changed the pot to a 1MA...and now it works completely differently. For most of the rotation of the pot,say 85 percent, theres very slight change and then bang!,its all on.

I can understand the change from linear to log making a difference, and going up to 1M but it seems as if the change in the position of the input cap is actually making the most difference with the first position, right on the input and having the sensitivity maybe slightly changing the transistor bias as being the better option.Any ideas?
Monkey see, monkey do.
