Great job!! Just wondering, how does it compare to the Hot Harmonics?

MartyB - nice one ! :D

PS: just had a scoot round your site ( cool ) and on the "Hot Harmonics"
text, I think you meant to say "+9 volts to pin 1 and ground pin 8" - NOT
the other way around  !!  :D

Cheers,
Marty.

MartyMart,  Thanks for the encouragement.  I think the schematic is ok.  From the pinouts I've seen pin 1 is the topmost pin on the left looking down on the CD4049UBE top, pin 8 is the bottom-most.  The schematic and descriptions diagram was copied without changes from Frank Clarke's site.

On a side-note, everyone I know in the US feels horrible about what happened today in England, me included.  I wish the families well.  Is it too simple? Violence will not foster a desire for peace, nor kindness in its victims.

Wow, that's a simple circuit. Isn't it recommended to ground all of the unused pins, though?

MartyB

You have to ground the unused inverter inputs to prevent an unstable situation as described by Peter Snowberg.  The input pins are 3,5,8,9,11, and 14.  All of those are accounted for in the layout.

... or use the extra inverters to build this, and include in the same box.

... maybe with a 4-pole rotary switch to select for pre, post, or no EQ.
... oh, and throw in a parallel buffer for a clean blend control and use it for bass, too. 8)

I had been thinking you could take the extra two buffers left over from Mr EQ and tack them on the end like the Three Legged Dog. And have a tube sound over drive with eq options. And as a bonus have no wasted inverters.

Oh, I see. It's been a while...

Interesting idea. Has anyone ever tried this?

Here's what I drew yesterday. This probably needs some changes. I put the gain and EQ before the last two inverters.

One question on the layout: that diode, is it just a 1N4148 type?

Paul Marossy

I used a 1N914. It seems to work fine. I made the the PCB ans populated last night/this morning. Interesting circuit, kind of unique sounding. I like it.  8)

EDIT: Thanks for the PCB layout!

Paul Marossy

I'll have it boxed up tomorrow sometime. I'll post a picture of it.
