Congrats..pretty wild eh?  Did you use a film cap for C3 (1uf)? Tonepad has the electro polarity backwards on that one, the pos lead should go the Q1's emitter. Not a problem if you use a film cap, but with an electro, it can pop and other wierdness if backwards.

Im only getting distortion from this thing- if i have this backward (which im sure i do) can that be what keeps the crazy doom sound from happenning? Im only getting distortion from it.

I just noticed that q2 takes a npn 2n3904 where as I had a 2n5306

Reverse the electro (C3), and drop a 3904 in Q2. Those two conditions could combine to kill the octave. Are you using Tonepad's board? It's set up to take 5306's with several pinouts. There's four pads for each of the 5306's. In the heat of battle (soldering), it's kind of easy to drop the 5306 in backwards. I love Francisco's small layout, but I use metal films in 1uf, so the polarity of C3 wasn't an issue. Did you use all the diodes listed? I'd double check the diode polarity, and also check for copper traces or solder bridges.
