......not OC44's.....but it was a gift from a friend.

The first project that comes to mind is build a Rangemaster or a Tonebender, as I have found through the archives, but... looks like the OC45 has less gain than the OC44, so will it be enough for a Rangemaster?

Any other project ideas about what can I build using these transistors?

I'd build a rangemaster & see if you like how it sounds.
What kind of a PCB are they from?? I can't imagine waht would call for 18 RF Ge transistors!! except some cutting edge 1962 computer!!!

dunno.....my friend told me he took it out of some old british TV, but at my service department one of the techs suggests it has been pulled out of some old Lowrey organ or such. If you are curious about it I could send you a picture

do you know what type of tv / roughly the age? i have some in the loft i'm not thinking of taking apart <_<

I bought 10 OC45s and a load of OC42s, i didnt bother to test for gain i socketed my rangemaster but all the OC45 i had didnt produce enough boost but most the oc42 sounded pretty good

Oh well..... :(  I'll try anyway, but your answer makes sense. Another choice could be cascading 2 transistors, but I have no idea how to do that.

Seeing you have built it, maybe increasing the collector resistor could squeeze out a little more gain. Geofex has (naturally) a good article on the Rangemaster.
