I know that there is not much need to have a vu meter on a pedel but I have a couple I salvaged knocking about and was wondering if they can be put in to the in put or out put of a circuit and what would the level be showing me if it worked. I would assume it would be like a mic amp and you could monitor the output level.
thanks

by the way don't work barefooted as I stood on an upside down op amp the other day and it bloody hurt!

a VU meter can show you anything, provided you can create varying voltage representation of the value you want displayed in the appropriate voltage range for the particular VU meter you're using.

Most often we see them monitoring audio levels. They can be considered to be showing the "average" level at any given time.

It's not just a case of plonking one in and hooking up the signal. You need to be careful to calibrate the readings and not damage the coil by overloading it.
