How many knobs do you like on effects devices:

As long as the knobs control something and work, you can put as many knobs on a pedal as can fit on the top of the box.

I think a Fuzz Face should really have that second knob for tone, not gain.

I haven't played it, but I really appreciated the design layout on this Fulltone distortion pedal,

Big knobs for what you want to change all the time, like while you're playing, and little knobs for stuff you change less, to tailor the sound a bit.  It might even be cool to have a roll bar so they don't get bumped, or even a secret compartment in the top of a pedal for secret knobs.
Dip switches and trim pots inside where one can get at them easily is a nice way to have a simple exterior, but be versatile.

I voted for 3 knobs... but I like to have many switches to selects options.

Not only is the count pedal dependent, it's also context/scenario dependent. Sometimes convenience/repeatability outweighs spontaneity/tweakablity, and vice versa. I made a living for years tweaking banks of pots on *vintage* german drum scanners, and my dream studio would certainly be equipped with a massive modular synth. But I have also been in high-pressure gig situations where that one misadjusted knob might as well have been labeled *blood-pressure* and been set to *11*.

I usualy don't go above 4 knobs and prefer 2/3 on most things - after all
10 pots/knobs gets expensive !!
Gain/Vol/Tone is enough and if the "tone" control is just simple "roll off"
I'll often just set it or use a switch for a high cut.
If the knob is making a big difference then I'll use it, if it's too subtle, then it goes !
I've recently started using "dual gang" pots, which can offer more
"bang for the buck" in an effect and save some real estate on the box

Marty, I have a FF with preset gain [still adjustable at guitar volume] and a .1uf/10k pot from output to ground to attenuate and adjust HF content.

Many, many knobs. And sliders look cool, too. And switches. Basically, it should look like the %^&*pit of a 747.

2 because I just want one that controls what it does and another for loudness.  I already have a tone control on the guitar and another on the amp, so no tone controls, please.  Ok, maybe a delay and repeats and volume on an echo unit.  Or maybe take that volume and ...

Too many options make my brain hurt.

Soundwise I would tkae as many as possible to tweak the sound to my liking as much as i can ( as long as im not making it, I Hate wiring in heaps of pots :icon_evil:)

Depending on the pot function, I will often use 11 step detented knobs.  There usually isn't that huge a difference in the "between" areas, and using stepped pots can make repeatability easy, while making it a bit harder to accidentally turn the knob away from your preferred setting.

I also like the knob concept on the Distortion Pro, though I'm not too fond of the actual sound of that pedal.
What does this button do?

Maybe because there ARE too many knobs and you haven't found a good setting  ;)

I missed the poll, but I'd go with 24 knobs.  I'd also have a 2-line, 20-character LCD display.

Hmmm...  maybe I should go back to analog for a while!
