has anyone tried using the little transformer used for electrolumence panels, to get highvlotage for guitar fx's
you send 5v dc in and get 80-100volts/35-60mA out..they are really small and seems it would be a great alternative to using dual back-to-back transformer a'la Real Mctube
only problem I can think of is the switchfrequency is 600Hz, but it shouldnt be a problem filtering that...

any thoughts would be appreciated..

Check out the toroidal transformers at Digikey.com. Also Aron's sell the EH one.

yeah I know..but the ones I'm thinking of are no bigger than the tip of your thumb ( about half the size of a 12ax7 ) and delliver enought voltage/current to run a few tubestages above what would be starved...all you need is a 6volt wallwart to supply the heaters and two series diods to drop the voltage down to 5volt...with these you could even builld a tubedriven box the size of a MXR dist+.... :D

Cool,
What's an electrolumence panel?

Johan

electroluminecens panels are the material/sheets that sits behind LCD displays to act as backlight. when you apply high voltage on them they start to glow..it is also the material that was used in some vintage optical compressors, like LA2a, to controll the LDR's ...

this one is actualy too small..but just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about...

I was wondering about that too, might work pretty good!
I think you would have to use large caps on the b+ but still might work perfect. Hmmm, little convertor, photoflash caps,, real mctube2,,,,,,, 8)

EL strips pull miniscule current.
U get the Voltage, but hardly any current.
4 100V U'd need 20ma or so.....
don't think those little xfmrs can deliver.
But, mayB U *want* the V 2 sag(?)

I found two that should work
www.elfa.se/en  partnumber 75-559-56  100volt ac/ 57 mA  (that is 5,7watts at 140volt when rectified) and the other 75-559-49 80vac/35mA (2,8watts at 113volt when rectified )...with a 12ax7 pulling only a few mA at higher voltages, I think this should be enough...abviously they would drain a battery in minutes, but then you'll need a transformer/wallwart for the heaters anyway..

Similarly, ther ewas a thread a while ago about slvaging the flash assembly from disposable cameras. Similar voltages.
