Just for the record: here is a schematic of the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 I found on the web, 2004 based (so with the comp-cut / vintage / flat mids) mod and the advised part change to change the unit into a Bassdrive. I've implemented them all (with a switch to switch between Fulldrive 2 and Bassdrive) and it works great!

Just remember not to change the transistors with 2N5088 when you want to use this on 18V  :D

Edit: I guess the switch is wired wrong (Comp cut / Flat Mids / Vintage). Any thoughts?

only one thought so far ... :icon_confused: ...  i agree with you. :icon_biggrin:  the "vintage" position leaves the clipping diodes completely out of the clipping section?!?

Kind of looks like the "Comp Cut" and "Vintage lables are reversed.

I started out with nothing... I still have most of it.

Hi guys!

Check this page too about FoolDrive2. Page is in finnish, but I'm sure you'll get the picture! Pics, schematics, pcbs etc.

Cool one...... they make a very good clone here.

My Finnish is a bit rusty (will ask my GF to translate a bit)

Maybe not... It might be correct for the special switch type used. The letters SPTT probably mean Single Pole Triple Throw (as DPDT means Double Pole Double Throw). Other way of writing it is SP3T. That kind of switch needs more than the 3 pins in typical SPDT togle case so some manufacturers use DPDT style case for that kind of switch.

Check out this: http://www.apem.fr/pdf/uk/section_a/05-Serie%205000-A-structure.pdf

Search for switch type 5644 for example. They even make it with two different pinouts, but I have not been able to locate any documentation of what the actual pinouts are. :(

cd

Use the search function, we (myself and the gracious supplier of the PCB whose name escapes me at the moment - Bent Penguin?) completely dissected a recent FD2 last year, which I presume is the source of the above info.  That and the schematics on GGG.  The Comp Cut switch is indeed a DPDT.

You have to search for "Fooltone" and/or "Fooldrive" to bring up the results.

thanks, cd!  sometimes all you need is the password ...  :icon_wink:

... argh ... and sometimes not.  would some kind soul share the fooltonefooldrive2.pdf file?  pls send a pm.  cheers!

never mind ... my finnish seems to be good enough  :)

Man, that's quite a bit of work. I finally gave in & bought one. The diodes on mine are covered with clear epoxy showing something like a 1n4001 & a round diode. I changed my clone to those, & while it sounds very good, it is still not as bright as the FD2.

I've noticed that you can make a more versatile pedal of these clones by adding a "clean" mixable channel (as in the Sparkle drive). Now I use this unit on bass mainly as a clean boost with just an edge of OD.....

yes!  i agree.  i do the same, using seanm's b. blender (even though i don't play bass ;)).  i like to use it with other effects, too.  like blending in a little really crazy phaser.

Bernardduur

Did you use the "full" blender?? I only used the "mini" blender and in its simplicity works great!!

i used the full blender.  i meant to try the simple one though.  did you stick yours into your od box or is it a separate box?

Bernardduur

Same box.
Here's a pic of it (only outside.....):

cool.   :icon_cool:  and it makes me think of a question. :)  in some blender discussions, i have seen a concern about clipping and the recommendation to use an 18V supply to avoid it.  but the voodoo lab sparkle drive runs at 9V.  so i guess putting the blender into the box makes it possible to make sure such clipping doesn't happen.  i wonder how that is designed?  maybe something like the voltage divider in the fuzz face that hard wires gain (i'm thinking of R.G.s comments in his The Technology of the Fuzz Face)?

Bernardduur

Check out the schematic of the Sparkle Drive and learn ;)

Oh, I run my unit on 18V so I have no problems!
