I kind of like it now though.

I massively like it. It looks right.

@ trad3mark: here's an example of proper tube mounting in a 1590B: http://virtue-harp.narod.ru/0212233845.JPG

PROPERLY HELPFUL!!!

Thanks for that, that's actually a big help. Right now, i'm looking around on the web for a noval socket that has pins on the bottom, like for mounting onto a PCB. It'll be a hell of a lot easier to work with that than those tab things.

As for the ECC81 that was in there, i was testing to see what gain was like with that. Not near as much fun though! ;) it's now got a Philips 12AX7 that was pulled from a 1963 Turntable. Propervintage!

@bean, Yeah a submini tube could be an option, but any pedals i've seen with submini tubes don't socket them. Is that the standard practice?

As far as copyrighting, i know that all i can copyright is the board/schematic. But it'll only cost me about €10, so why not.

Doesn't cost you a penny, certainly don't give any money to someone who claims it does :)

You can get sockets for subminis however they must be pretty rare if the price is any indication. What i've seen some people do is mount an 8pin DIP socket on their board and then also mount the tube into another DIP socket so it's easy to plug in or remove your tubes.

That's a small price to pay when your tube pedals are being geared up for world domination!
Try a little tenderness.

trad3mark

id rather get the sockets for the tubes that have pins instead of sockets, if you get me? Like pins that would fit into perfboard or something instead of those annoying tags...

I've got several builds finished recently, but only this one have I taken pictures of.

Rebote 2.5 with the PTAP Tap Tempo circuit as well. This thing ROCKS! Sounds good in my little headphone amp at least. I'll have to play around and see how to best use the Tap Tempo feature - This thing makes me really excited about Taylor's upcoming Echo Base PCB. Anyway... the real deal is below.

I have a few other builds I should get pics of up soon.

Why not a sub mini tube? Wouldn't that help space-wise?

Don't tempt me please. The idea might stick as a fart in the elevator...and then I have to squeeze one inside a 1590A ;).

As far as I know the Johnny Ramone always plugged straight into a marshall stack, so I guess it is not historically accurate. It's just a one-off I made for a friend.

Figures... I go an post a pedal up that I'm super proud of, really neat wiring, pretty good decals and a neato tap function. Then Slade shows me up...

Kidding of course. I used to think that you made it impossible for me to do this well Slade, but now I think I'm inspired by you. I have no idea how you can make such pretty boxes, but one day I hope to make them as nice as you. I'm also amazed at how many  you make - either parts are super cheap down there in SA or you're independantly more wealthy than me.

Time for an intermission  ;D

A dual channel BSIAB2 as posted previously, but this time with some artwork kindly contributed by a chap at work. If you couldn't already tell, he's into grafitti!
He hand painted the background, scanned it and added the rest in photoshop. It was then printed onto waterslide to be applied to the box.
I like it!  :)

That is freakin sweet......

Jacob, parts are more expensive here (Chile), and even more where Fernando lives (Valdivia), but you don´t have to be a millionare to build a pedal. Generally, if you sell a pedal as a hobbyst, a big part of the price covers the parts for the next one (and not beers and drugs). What i really envy from slade ( apart of his awesome finishes and nice taste on designs) is the amount of time he has available to build something almost each week!....i have so limited time to work on my projects that takes me like a month to make one.

Slade i have to confess that i took your tutorial and tried my own variations on it..instead on etching on the box, y etched a PCB board, and painted the letters and all as you do.. it turned out great!!!! but not even near your gorgeous work.... i´ll post some pics soon..

I'm sorry, I forgot to say how much I like your pedal, I like the painting and the font style you used!
I'm glad I can be an inspiration! That's always an honor. Daniel explained about the parts here in Chile, I can ensure I'm not wealthy, I work hard everyday but, yes, I have a lot of time to work on pedals, it's a passion, you know.

That's a good confession, haha! I hope I can see that PCBs soon!
Thanks for your words, Daniel, I'm writing a spanish version of that tutorial soon, a little more complete (idiom limitations are a big problem for me when writing technical tutorials....) made for "Cabeza Cuadrada Store", I'll let you know.

did you paint that rebote pcb blue, and if you did what did you use.
i ask because i remeber makeing that board and it was white  :P

jkokura

you made me the PT80 Board that was off-white. This one was made by Taylor. The PT80 may be ruined or may not be. I have some debugging to do.

Thanks Slade, a complement coming from you makes my head feel large.

oh ok it was a pt80 couldnt remeber if theres any probs with the board itself let me know

Great job on this pedal.  I checked out the PTAP website, it looks pretty interesting.  Do you happen to have a video using the tap tempo function or know where I could find one?
