That would be too easy. Have you SEEN the man's work?

that's brilliant!

what (for lack of a proper word) "plugs" are those?
are they hard to do or do you just solder and heatshrink them?

then heat-shrinked. ;)
it's not hard (though it does take a bit extra time), but in my view it's worth it.

You guys are clever, but I reckon he used one of these:

;D what were you doing in my stuff folder?

Just a treble boost, based on the Beavis circuit and Andrew Carrell's vero layout with a gain knob and a couple of tone switches.

Artwork was borrowed from illustrator James Joyce it's a picture of all Daniel Pemberton's music gear.

Most recent, finished this afternoon when some parts came in.

This is "The Modulation Station." It's a pretty complicated build, in a 1590DD. The paint is acrylic metal speck, the decal is a clear Vinyl printed by a local sign shop, the clear coat is a waterbased polyurethane (guaranteed not to yellow according to it's label). Inside are three circuits - GGG's versions of the Phase 45 and improved EA Tremolo, and Tonepad's FL301 Flanger. There's also an effects loop (using mono switching jacks) thrown in for good measure! The order for the circuit goes: Input -> Phaser -> Effects Loop -> Flanger -> Tremolo -> Output.

Heck of a thing to build, but so far it's working!

And the Guts.

Tombola: nice. Following the camera derail, that photo is interesting - looks like a film print on some 70's print stock, then sitting on top of some canvas. Is that real or a Photoshop job?

Jacob: also very nice. I remember talking about that with you months ago, and you did it, so good job. Those boards are pretty snug in there. Tell us more about that paint. Did you brush it on?

My First contribution to this thread. Pretty exciting.

First off, you guys are @#$%ing nuts at building pedals. The "modulation station" is crazy good. So damn neat.

Here's my first pedal build that wasn't a kit.
It's a Gaussmarkov Dr. Boogie.
I will be having my friend paint it this summer, so I'll update it then.

Taken with Mac camera, so quality sucks and it's reverse. Better than nothing though.
Front view.

Side with power jack and input jack. Yeah, had to really round out the hole for the dc jack due to not having a big enough bit. I'm happy with the result.

Guts. Definitely could've been a lot neater, but it's better than my previous "kit pedals". And hey, if it sounds good, then I'm happy.

I love this stuff.

Thanks Taylor. I'm pretty proud of it. I have the gain station on the go as well - the enclosure needs to be painted, decaled, and clear coated, then I can start installing all the parts. I'm pretty excited about both of these projects. I can't wait until you've done the massive delay board for me to do the delay station!

The boards fit perfectly side by side in there. There's some wire running on the sides so if I had to provide some more room I could have.

As for the paint - no, it's sprayed on. But the clear is brushed. I like the effect it gives, the bottom was all brushed the same way each coat before baking. The top I cross brushed to give a fairly cool cross-hatch pattern. The first two clear coat layers came out very smooth, but the third one the pattern became more evident. I think I need to let it cool more after each coat, and then I need to be quicker when applying the clear coat. I'm going to try using a foam brush next time to see if I get a smoother look.

1590DD projects are cool.

Thanks! The photo is taken with a fun iPhone app called Hipstamatic which turns your iPhone into a bunch of old cameras with interchangable film and lenses.

Pretty neat! I actually have and use the ultimate hipster grime camera, the Holga. Lots of fun, I should start taking all my pedal pictures with it.

Just realized you're Tom from Musicthing. I do miss that blog dearly. Cool that you've ventured into this particular corner of music nerdery.

I haven't posted this one yet, so I thought I would.

BYOC OD2 - Full Mosfet specs. The finish was acrylic paint, a clear vinyl sticker for the decal, and clear polyurethane that's been brushed on. You can't see it in the pictures, but it has a pretty cool texture to the finish. It's a non-yellowing urethane. I put three coats on, each with 30 minutes of bake afterwards. I thought the brush strokes would even out more, but no luck there. Turned out cool anyway.

I've been trying to work out how you got white labelling on a clear vinyl sticker  ???

Cheers

jkokura

I used a local sign shop - they print white with a pretty fancy machine on the clear vinyl.

Enjoying that app very much. Thanks for the steer, Tom.

What kind of LEDs and bezels did you use in the Sparkle/Klon?  They're HUGE!

jkokura

You can get 8mm LED's and bezels from Small Bear.

How did you fix the PCB on the Bender without the screws coming through the box? Very nice guts man!

The great smell of warm tubes! "Murder One" submini tube guitar amplifiers available to forum members at great prices! This one features socketted tubes and a vintage (November '54) Raytheon 5672 pentode, and a vintage (April '59) GE 6111 dual triode with square getters. The look for this season is cool blue.
