Hello All,

I stay admirative looking at that paint and decorum job you make on your stompboxes - like this bicolor one a post before, just to mention only one.

Here's my last release - this is not a pedal but a stereo audio amp for laptop or mp3-4 or any player.

2 controls : volume, tone (treble attenuator) - the circuit uses 2 LM386 chips, and is powered by battery or ext. adaptor.

I tested with a guitar : you have a nice, deep clean jazz sound. No overdrive, unfortunately... It wasn't intended for direct guitar plugging, in fact.

And of course no paint on it, sorry... just a copper plate, a rarity coming from an old dismantled vapour generator of an abandoned liquor distillery.

A+!
I apologize for my approximative english writing and understanding !

That looks sweet!  Maybe use a preamp if you want to push it into overdrive?  Also, what does an overdriven LM386 sound like?  I picture it sounding like most op-amps when overdriven, extremely harsh clipping.
I made the transistor angry.

Run Off Grove to the rescue :)

At least the first row is LM386 circuits, there might be more.

Well,

Yes, a front preamp can be used (or anything like a Boogie 22 preamp) - The sound of an overdriven LM386 driving a small speaker (3" - 4", for example) is quite good, surprisingly not too much harsh clipping. I tried the Smokey Amp, the Little Gem and their equivalents : all sounded quite good in term of harshness, but an harmonicist friend find it very cool for a dirty pocket harmonica amp, rather than for guitar playing. The speaker I used was a 3" / 2W / 8 Ohms. Inexplicably, it wasn't possible to have a clean sound with a significative volume on guitar, conversely to my audio stereo monitor... Here is a pic of my guitar version trial :

Even better : hammered gold paint - very "industrial vintage finish" +++

Also a very nice orange DMT Custom Shop "Orange Custom Improved Phase 90" came to us in the meantime.

I built a second copy of my Dyna Comp clone named Neo-Classic 3080 Compressor and just shipped it off as a free gift to a close friend:

On this particular build thanks goes to Scruffie for donating the CA3080E chip back while the first one was still under development. All transistors are 2N5088. Here's a close up of the guts:

I also built myself a spare copy of my gray 250 Overdrive clone named Neo-Classic 741 Overdrive. Now I can have one at my computer to use with Line6 TonePort GX/GearBox and one at my practice amp. Here's a gut shot with both of them together. My 2010 version is on the left and my new 2011 version is on the right, which features a slight PCB layout revision but it's the exact same circuit. I think my internal wiring is a bit more tidy this time:

And here's the outside of both together; again 2010 on the left and 2011 on the right. I have twins!:

Guitar > Neo-Classic 741 Overdrive > Boss NS2 Noise Suppressor > DOD BiFET Boost 410 > VHT Special 6 Ultra Combo Amp Input > Amp Send > MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay > Boss RC3 Loop Station > Amp Return

El Musico Loco  little angel chorus - R.Amp Fallen Angel
Mad Proffesor Deep blue Deelay - R.Amp Infinity deelay

naw, one of them fancy 'lectric sewin machine pedals.

Mugshot

not a pedal, just a regulated 9V power supply. 200mA only, smallest trafo i could get that would fit the box i have :-)

i am what i am, so are you.
