I want to like your post, tubelectron, but that button isn't showing - it might be punishment for such large images [I think they are trying to break my browser page].

I like the blue colours and the knobs, and the cardboard nameplate. and it's a mkIII.

Thanks duck_arse !

I should have remembered that pics appears full size on DIYstompboxes and chosen an intermediate size  :icon_confused: :icon_redface:

A+!
I apologize for my approximative english writing and understanding !

wot? me first? no, not first build of 2019, my second last build of 2018.

BetterOffShred [where did he go?] sent me some low-low gain transistors - what to build? I had a spare bendy waiting, so I cast about till I ended up with "Ustinov's Theory", actually a bronx cheer, w/ darlingtoned transistors. and to use the available internal volume better [and cause Mark wanted one] I did a cordwood layout, which was never going to clear the DC jack. so I redid it w/ radials as a stacked-pair, and here it is.

I was watching a horse race recently, and one runner was named Ustinov's Theory [I think it's still running ....]. I couldn't write the name down fast enough - only, I'd misheard; horse is named Ustinov's Fury, so he's going to be pissed when he finds out.

the theory is a real thing, after all - it states that the more a pedal looks like a milk jug, the more it will make you think of a tremolo. weird, huh.

the full bukket with wired and circuit and layout, for bluebunny's approval [pending]:

Cool!  Thanks!  I love the cordwood builds!

I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

It is indeed most cute.  (2019 resolution: try cordwood!)

If something else is holding up the page load (e.g. hooooge picture), the Like buttons are the last thing to get rendered.  Dunno why?  ???

I have an idea that the problem is tubelectron's profile pic, which doesn't seem to load even in it's own browser tab .....

You are correct. I blocked the offending avatar path in my adblock extension and the page loads quickly with the like buttons.

Not finished yet, but I tested it today and it's working great. Mesa Boogie tube preamp:

The project is the one from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-fVBIID6Aw

I'm using 6N2P for the tubes. Since they draw a little over 1A just for the heaters and I don't have any 6V supply with more than 1A, I used a Sony PSP charger (5V 1.5A) to power it :icon_twisted:. Also, 555 smps powered from the same PSP charger. I'm getting about 122V from the smps. Noise level is pretty acceptable, because it isn't in a metal box yet and because of the "power suppy" I used :icon_lol:.

Little and crappy soundclip recordered with my cellphone:

I'd say the results were pretty good for somebody who never got a dr boogie to work (and I tried lots of times) :icon_lol:

Actually, it's because the hostingpics.net service has closed down.  The home page has a message (in French) with details.

@Bruno: you might want to move your avatar picture!  :)

Well, the most "space limiting" factor are the pots. But you don't really need the presence pot. So, with 5 pots, it's possible to build one in a 1590B.

Well, I mean, there's also three tubes... :P

...I'm still going to do it though. I'll probably have a layout done this weekend or early next week. :icon_twisted:

The 3 tubes doesn't limit the size as the pots does. I'm building a submini amp with 3 tubes that will (hopefully) fit a 1590B, but with 3 pots. If you use a single pot tone stack, I'm pretty sure you can do a very small build.

Are you letting your tubes stick out the top of the box though? Because I like to keep them inside. Takes up more room, but a lot less chance of accidentally getting stepped on. 8)

Right now it's just a blank board with pots, tubes, and regulators :P But eventually it will be the DR preamp, yup. I always lay out the big stuff first to make sure it will fit before starting the layout. And I know I said this weekend or next week, but I've been thinking about it too much and I want to do it today :P

Didn't thought on the box yet. For the 1590B mini amp, I'll stick them out the top of the box, I like this look. But for the boogie pre, I don't have any ideas yet.

Also, your sketch is looking nice. I was thinking you're going for side mounted pots like mine, not top mounted pots like a stompbox, that's why I said about the pots being the size limiting factor. So 6 pots won't be a problem in your build.
