Introducing the Post Fuzz. (Haven't named it yet)
Three dimensional out of the box hexagonal construction. (no cube/pyramid networks here)
Consisting of eight copper nine gage "rods" (95 mm tall).
100 x 100 x 50 mm.
Volume and tone controls.
True bypass.
Acrylic case.
Looks cool and sounds even better (has been biased).
MOJO ?...don't know.
Pictures as usual don't do justice.
Learned a lot and would make a few changes.
Nine gage solders difficult in the middle but at the ends no problem.
(Needs feet which I need to get at the hardware store tomorrow)

:icon_lol: well, that makes my day. If you replaced the diodes with LEDs would they light up?

60 pedals and counting!

Quotewell, that makes my day. If you replaced the diodes with LEDs would they light up?
I have tried, on bread board, different leds with limited success to get them to light up, some dim.
What's the secret ? Dime the volume on the guitar and effect ? (Did not work for me)

nice one, Phend.

I did wrap the leads of the components around the rods, is that what you mean ?
Or should it be "pure" copper wire that does the wrap ?
(Just tried a magnet, yup some leads are steel !, ie capacitors resistors diodes)

take some mains rated stranded wire, pull a single bare copper strand from same. solder tack it as quick as you like to the bar, then wrap it around the component leg and bar, and pull tight. then sweat in some solder. it seems to me that the fine strand conducts the heat from the iron much better and takes and wicks the solder into the joint. you can tack the component to the bar roughly too, before the wrapping.

Looks like some voodoo magic fuzz... If "picture doesn't do it justice" maybe a recording will. Is there any chance to hear a sound sample ? I am curious to know how it sounds ! Please ?

I'm not an EE, but I believe the illumination of clipping LEDs just depends on the circuit, and whether the guitar signal is boosted enough at that point to provide the necessary voltage.

QuoteLooks like some voodoo magic fuzz.
Here is a sound demo, switching between clean and fuzz and clean and, tone. This effect is a simple basic EHX Muff Fuzz, so nothing complex.

It sounds like we're getting in a nice hot bath. The tone gives the impression that we are diving in the bathtub.

It should be good for your arthritis...

I would call it the "Roasted Sorcerer's Bathtub Fuzz" because there is truly something cooked to medium-rare in that sound.

Marcos - Munky

Very nice build, Paul. I really like how you don't go for effects that are "useable in a pedalboard", but instead go for creative builds. For big solder joints, I'd try to "sand" a bit the rods using a knife or something like that, and to use a bigger solder iron. Something like 60W.

Temol, the inside of your box is so beautiful! I don't know how to draw ptp layouts, but I think they look great. The outside is also very well done. How did you made those faceplates?

temol

Marcos, thanks. Faceplate is made of cardstock (golden) with laser printed text. Then couple coats of acrylic clear spray. Mounted with permanent spray adhesive.

Great  Tube Preamp! it's the same thing I would like to do, a SMPS board to power up a tube preamp.
What is your SMPS board? Did you buy or build it?

It's a diy SMPS project. Probably the same schematic as here
