Very cool - not real snakeskin though I hope.

I heard John kills pythons, rattlesnakes and cobras with his bare hands! ^_^

I heard he kills 'em with his teef.

Do you have a schematic or parts layout that you'd be willing to share?  I've been looking for a good compressor/gate/limiter pedal to build...

And in case anyone wanted to see my audio probe (I managed to stuff an entire film capacitor into it :P), here it is:

And the insides of this guy:

I know, it's not much of a build, but it's my first "build". So yeah... why not.

Nice.. Seems a bit big though.

Where do you come up with spalted bubinga?
I've never seen spalted woods of any kind at any of the specialty wood dealers
around here never mind bubinga (or 100 year old chestnut).

The spalted Bubinga was the flip side of a scrap piece of highly figured bubinga I used for something else.
I've used some splated Ash salvaged from "firewood" and I have a Les Paul copy with a spalted maple top. I've never seen any that was that great for sale. Spalting is the half rotten wet wood turning black just before it gets mushy...it's a rare and unstable thing.
I buy my fancy woods from  http://www.cookwoods.com/ Some AMAZING woods there.
The Chestnut was salvaged from an old farm house's floor beams. It's actually well over 100 years old, more like 125+
I got a few other boards from another house that are very straight grain Chestnut door casings...perfectly straight grain...

I'm guessing epoxy to stick the tolex to the box and pickguard?

I used E6000 actually. I was going to use epoxy but I decided it would be more forgiving to use a flexible adhesive and the longer drying time was easier to deal with while cutting and monkeying around trying to get the pieces to fit together somewhat seamlessly.
The wood box is done with carpenters yellow glue. Sticks well to the wood and to the leather like back of the skins.
They are sealed well in many coats of polyurathane so water/wear isn't so much a problem...

Thanks for the kind words folks!

john

Thanks for the link John, there's some fantastic guitar sets in there, I especially like the Koa and Zircote samples they show. These guys http://www.amwoodinc.com/ are a short drive away from me. They don't have near the selection in guitar woods but do have a lot of great lumber and veneers.

Aleksi

Hi guys,

a few shots of the pedals I've been working on for the past few weeks. First up a AMZ Mosfet Booster. I actually liked this so much, that instead of using the switch as a bypass switch I wired it to change gain resistor between a fixed 5kohm resistor and the 5kohm pot.

I made the board layouts with Eagle and ordered proper PCBs for both projects.... I think the cost come to about 10€ per board.

And here are some shots of my two Valvecasters. This pedal is really really nicel! The orange version is going to my father as a late father's day gift. I ended up using coloured sticker paper, because the transparent sheets I planned on using turned out to be "grayish" instead of transparent.

Aleksi, welcome!!! Nice work on the Valvies, I like them both!!!  :icon_wink:

Although not actually a pedal, it's integral to finishing them....  I finally took the time to un-bury my paint booth.  Built this for painting scale models a few years ago.  All it is is a melamine box with a 4" deep plenum on the back.  Put a small squirrel-cage blower in the plenum with a vent hose to the outside, a filter of your choosing over the opening to the booth and an on/ off switch.  Yes I know that's an overly simplified description, but you get the idea.  I believe I've got less than $75 invested and it works great!  No more sucking up spray bomb fumes.  Oh, I also installed a 6" x 6" glass block in the top and set a can light on top for lighting.  You can see from the pi that it lights up the interior rather well.  If anyone wants to build one, I can draw up a set of plans.  The only pricey part is the blower.  I happened to have lying around that I could use.

And here's a shot of the plenum on the back with the vent hose.

That looks like a really good idea! I can't bear the fumes and only use spray cans outside in the summer wearing a respirator. Do you find that pulling the air through the box with the fan creates any sort of dust problem while painting?

Dave,

Not really.  It doesn't create that much of a vacuum.  Just enough to pull the overspray and fumes.  I suppose if you're in a really dusty environment it might, but I've never had a problem that I can think of.  I must have painted 20 or 30 models in there with no issues.  And there ain't nothin more frustrating than a big 'ol dust bunny in the roof of your freshly painted chevelle!!  ( Bad experience with a paint job.  Took me 5 tries to get it the way I wanted.)

The plain, painted pedals are finally getting some artwork (thanks to the wonderful info on this site).
http://www.steveevans.org/pedals/

Now, I have a plain, sanded aluminium case ready for my CE-2 clone, on which I plan to use black laserjet on clear decal film. Seeing as I'm a little challenged in the artistic dept. I'm looking for suggestions for something other than speed/depth/in/out :)

Cheers
