Took the Si transistor out of an old radio.

Haven't found the right sized knob for the volume yet.

I liked your rangemaster. Simple looking things are pretty amazing. You just need to find a nice knob to use.

What's the depth of your enclosures? Looks like a nice boss style 27mm would go nicely!

Patrick, that's a good idea on the Boss style knob...I tried a boss style I had, but it was the largest size, and way too much. Enclosure is 40mm high, so plenty of space.
The problem I found was most wide knobs are also too tall, and stick out too much. Will stop by RS Components, they have some interesting options.

Haha, thank you! Well, this is only the second completed build, so definitely newb deluxe.

It's a Hammond 1590U,
4.7x4.7x2.17" so quite tall.
My local place has most of the sizes, so I go and put them on the floor and stare at them and wave my foot around till one seems right... ...yeah...

I wish I had a local store that stocked enclosures specifically so I could do this. Excellent technique

4x12 Celestion V30 cabsim. It's a hybrid of cabsim and delay line (to simulate standing waves, just like inside a real speaker cabinet)

I've never shot a 21 guage before. 

Somebody here did a Phase 45 build with a piece of .45 (ACP?  Colt?) brass.

Three I've built recently.  On the left is a Klone (Aion Refractor PCB) that I finished late last night, really just trying it out today.  My first experience with the circuit, pretty cool.  I need to straighten up a little inside, I didn't have a 390n cap and had to parallel 4 ceramic discs to get the value, but I'll get a proper cap soon.

Middle is pretty obviously a Dynacomp.  GGG board.  NOS MPS5172 transistors, and NOS RCA metal can CA3080A.  Carbon film resistors.  Mucho mojo.

On the right is my "ultimate" TS-808.  Actually I'm calling this a TX-808.  I have a small stash of 1979 TI RC4558Ps, and they sound a bit different than the JRCs.  A little less "mushy" if you will.  NOS Toshiba 1S1588 clippers, carbon film resistors.  GGG PCB in this one too, VERY highly recommended for a 1590B TS build.

hi everyone

it's been a pretty long time since i last posted anything, time during which i couldn't set up a work space and then, questioning myself a lot about what and how to build anything, but finally this is over (well, for the first part, at least...)

here's one that had been on my mind for such a long time.
point-to-point circuit board, mix of 2sc1815s, metal can 2n2222s, bc337 and 2n5088...
never really managed to set the octave trimmer right, maybe i need a scope...
the enclosure was water sanded a bit (180 and 500 grit paper) and hand engraved with my long time friend, mr dremel. (still a bit shaky...)

it's a 1590N1 !
i never liked the 1590B. now they make thicker ones (the BS and B2) which i like better, but i still prefer the slightly bigger ones like the N1, even if guitar players tend to like the shrinked pedals more like the 1590A (ô, how i hate those...)

I tried that method once, and will never try it again Needless to say your results are significantly better than mine were. Really great looking build

the secret is taking your time, and use the flex-o-thingy, which is much lighter and thiner than the dremel, so much easier to work with!
