I was thinking you're going for side mounted pots like mine, not top mounted pots like a stompbox, that's why I said about the pots being the size limiting factor.

Ah, that makes more sense. It would get a little cramped with side-mounted jacks. Though that does remind me, I have a bunch of nice aluminum enclosures that would be perfect for preamps and for some reason I haven't built a preamp into any of them, I just keep building stompboxes :P

Actually, it's because the hostingpics.net service has closed down.  The home page has a message (in French) with details.

@Bruno: you might want to move your avatar picture!  :)

Ah, yes Guys, you're right ! hostingpics.net is out of business, so I have been forced to change for another image hosting provider some times ago :icon_confused: .So consequently, I think that most of the pictures I posted on the forum has vanished now... But more than this : I read that posting problems occurs with those dead links ! Génial... :icon_sad: :-[

I'll try to retrieve my avatar picture and reinstall it...  :icon_rolleyes:

That said, I also see that pedal crazyness still continues !  :icon_eek: 8)

Duck_Arse is making pedals at a watchmaker's scale, covered with cloth (clever idea), some others are trying to enter a Mesa boogie preamp full enclosed in a 1590 box... Mais où va-t-on ?

I had the time these days to add a 5th item to my "Retro-Cool" collection (name given by Rob "deadastronaut") :

It's a tremolo pedal : the PICOTREM.

No real glory here for me  :icon_rolleyes: : it's a slightly modded kit "Surfy Trem" (model SI-SUTRKI01) from Surfy Industries AB (www.surfyindustries.com). That said, it's an excellent device giving amplitude tremolo (aka BlackFace) and harmonic tremolo (aka BrownFace) in the same box, at a flick of a FSW. There's still a little problem of FSW kliks to cure, though...

I did this in order to test if that kit sounded well for an amp integration : very convincing...

A+!

   :icon_cool:

Thanks bluebunny !

Today, I re-tested the device on my Deluxe Reverb, and surprise...

1 - loud thump / throb in the speaker.

2 - switching cliks on both functions (on/off and harmonic/amplitude).

The 1st is a complete surprise since nothing appeared on my Roland MicroCube - yes, I know that it hasn't the bass extension of a DR, but.. The 2nd was heard more or less, but again, I made the test yesterday evening, at moderated volume.

Add to this that attempting to correct those issue, I killed some SMD components on the PCB while using a 47nF cap that still held for more than 6 month some high voltage coming from my tube amp tests this summer. Stupid, crazy, but true...  :icon_frown:

Some days, it's better to be "lazy, just stay in bed"...  :icon_rolleyes:

That said, the Throb story makes me rewise my opinion about integrating such a device in a (moreover tube) amp project : rather inconclusive...

my last build of 2018, my first ever hammertone, my third Mosrite Fuzzrite-a-like built to replace a pedal called "Down II" [how do you get down off an elephant?], hence, the Third Down.

all hand cut and bashed and inspired by a Pettol build, built with Japanese germaniums and oversized axials, with added 'gnats' and 'releases' switches. the fuzzrite is my favourite sounding fuzz thus-far heard.

it was only some hours after I'd picked the only available flower in the yard that I realised I'd put the Germanium next to the geranium - has peppermint scented leaves.

guts, more pics and things can be seen in the bukket:

more to be said on the paintwork soon - in a different thread .....

Very pretty!!

Duck, where are you getting that style battery snap?!  I used to get them from Radio Shack, which is now pretty much defunct.

I use some from "China"-- and have found some decent ones.. but, I prefer those because the gauge of the wire is a bit more robust.

I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

Duck, I really like that pedal too.  I'm still waiting for Bruno to give me my Like button back though.  :icon_wink:

thanks, fellas.

gdmc - I think that is the last one I had from "I don't know". I think it might have been Jaycar, the clip is OK, but I still hate the wire - I've never seen a clip with proper decent wire AND proper connection to the clips in the same place.

I hear you... the "China" ones I get are acceptable.. but, yes, they are all somewhat shoddy...

I got rid of the "blue bag" and "tayda" varieties a long way back.

Really love that enclosure Duck, did you make it yourself? Looks like one of Pettol's. I'd love to use those but i don't have the tools or patience to bend one myself

Nice build, mate.  Not bad joke.  You obviously have a better class of Christmas cracker...

You said that it is a FuzzRite-like with Ge Qs ?

AFAIK, the FuzzRite were Si, Right ?

At least, that's what I found when I built mine, many years ago :

This is for my guitar teacher from 20 years ago.  He found me on Facebook and I offered to build him a Tonebender clone of sorts.
He gave me the name he wanted.  This is what I came up with.  Best settings make for funny faces so to speak :)

My last creation of the 2018 (finished 31.12) - Dual Rectifier.

And some noise - jfet DR vs VST DR.

cut file sand bend swear file sand drill swear swear paint swear ...... yep. all by hand. and some blocks of wood. and I asked Pettol to see inside one of his pedals, also blue hammertone, before I measured mine up.

Wow, it's been a while since I've actually finished a pedal :P I've been trying to work through my backlog of PCB's I've accumulated over the years, so here is the first of many: Pearl Octaver clone built on Madbean's fabulous Low Rider PCB.

My second pedal in 2019, CMOS distortion based on CD4007UBE. I accidentally bought an IC produced by now non existent factory from ex-Yugoslavia, EI Niš (famous for tube production as well).
